Description
SUMMARY:
To ensure food is delivered accurately, promptly, and professionally while maintaining high standards of guest service.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Food Runners are responsible for:
- Delivering food from the kitchen to guests quickly and accurately.
- Ensuring food presentation meets restaurant standards.
- Assisting servers and kitchen staff as needed.
- Maintaining cleanliness and organization in service areas.
Procedure:
Before Service
- Arrive on time and in proper uniform.
- Review daily specials, menu changes, and allergen information.
- Ensure service stations are stocked with necessary supplies.
- Verify table numbers and seating chart assignments.
During Service
- Check each order for accuracy before leaving the kitchen.
- Confirm all plates match the ticket.
- Deliver food promptly while maintaining proper food handling practices.
- Announce each dish when placing it in front of guests.
- Verify guests have all necessary condiments, utensils, and accompaniments.
- Notify the server immediately of any issues or special requests.
- Maintain communication with kitchen and service staff.
Guest Interaction
- Greet guests courteously.
- Use positive and professional language.
- Respond promptly to guest requests or direct them to their server.
- Never argue with guests.
Food Safety
- Wash hands frequently.
- Handle plates properly without touching food-contact surfaces.
- Follow all health department regulations.
- Report spills and safety hazards immediately.
After Service
- Clear and organize service stations.
- Restock supplies for the next shift.
- Assist with cleaning duties as assigned.
- Report any equipment or operational issues to management.
Requirements
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE: Must be 14 years of age.
LANGUAGE SKILLS: Demonstrates effective and diplomatic oral and written communication skills using English.
REASONING ABILITY: Decisions are limited to within the scope of essential duties.
OTHER SKILLS/ABILITIES: Must maintain an appearance and personality to meet and address customers.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Essential duties performing physical exertion: frequent brisk walking, climbing stairs, stooping, pushing and standing for an entire shift, with standard breaks, in order to perform duties. Essential duties may involve working in small, confined spaces used to contain food, with floors which may become slippery in the process of preparing food and beverages. Essential duties require lifting up to 30 pounds to stack, store or move kitchen, restaurant and equipment. Essential duties involve a flexible workweek with additional hours routinely required.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: Essential duties involve working in a kitchen environment which contains loud noise, odors and a frequent hot or cold work environment due to running ovens and refrigeration units.
