Role description:

 As a Hydrogeologist / groundwater modeller

  • You will be responsible for leading and delivering complex groundwater and hydrogeology projects related to infrastructure and the environment. 
  • Work involves using prescribed methods for various data analysis and modelling assignments as part of groundwater and contaminant fate and transport modelling projects. 
  • Sound understanding of physical hydrogeology and hydrology is required. A strong knowledge of chemical hydrogeology would be an advantage.
  • Project Leadership:  Lead and manage the hydrogeology aspects of Site Evaluation & Restoration (SER) projects from inception to completion, ensuring adherence to timelines, budgets, and quality standards. 
  • Site Investigation: Conduct comprehensive site investigations, including aquifer test (e., slug and pumping test) soil and groundwater sampling, monitoring, and analysis. 
  • Interpret and evaluate data to identify environmental risks and develop appropriate mitigation strategies. 
  • Remediation Planning and Implementation: Develop and implement remediation strategies for contaminated sites, including remedial action plans, feasibility studies, and remediation system design. Oversee remediation projects to ensure effective and efficient implementation. 
  • Regulatory Compliance: Stay updated on environmental regulations and guidelines relevant to SER projects. 
  • Ensure compliance with local, national, and international environmental standards. 
  • Client Management: Build and maintain strong client relationships, understanding their needs and providing tailored solutions.  Act as a trusted advisor and subject matter expert in SER. 
  • Team Collaboration:  Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including hydrogeologists, groundwater modelers, geologists, engineers, scientists, and other environmental professionals, to deliver integrated solutions and achieve project objectives. 
  • Business Development:  Support business development efforts by identifying opportunities, preparing proposals, and participating in client presentations. Contribute to the growth and success of Arcadis GEC's SER & SO practice 

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Education: A master’s degree in hydrogeology, water resource engineering or environmental engineering (with a focus on groundwater modelling or hydrogeologic processes) is preferred. 
  • Experience: Minimum of 10 years of relevant professional experience in groundwater modelling, hydrogeology, and a detailed understanding of infrastructure and environmental services. 
  • Experience in managing hydrological and hydrogeological data, developing conceptual models, and interpreting data. 
  • Demonstrated expertise in groundwater control system design. 
  • Experience conducting groundwater modelling and working with modelling programs such as FEFLOW, MODFLOW, MODPATH, MT3DMS and PREEQC. Familiarity with model processing software such as Groundwater Vistas and FEFLOW is required, although strong candidates with directly relevant experience will also be considered. 
  • Experience with mathematical software such as Python and R. 
  • Proven track record of successfully leading and delivering complex projects, including managing budgets, resources, and client expectations. 
  • Strong ability to analyse and interpret complex environmental data, identify trends, and develop actionable recommendations. 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to effectively convey complex technical information to both technical and non-technical stakeholders. 
  • In-depth understanding of relevant environmental regulations and guidelines, including local, national, and international standards. 
  • Professional certifications, such as P.G. (Professional Geologist), P.E. (Professional Engineer), or other relevant industry certifications, are desirable. 
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and mentor teams while fostering a collaborative and inclusive work environment. 
  • Strong business development skills, including the ability to identify opportunities, prepare proposals, and contribute to the growth of the Site Evaluation & Restoration (SER) practice.
