Founded in 1964, High Plains Mental Health Center has been serving the residents of Northwest Kansas with mental health services for more than five decades. High Plains, a licensed community mental health center, is dedicated to an aggressive pursuit of providing a comprehensive mental health program to the residents of Northwest Kansas. Embodied in this pursuit are fundamental principles of establishing quality services as close to home as possible, at an affordable fee and delivered in the least disruptive manner available. Such services will offer a continuum of care so treatment can be individualized. Staff will respond quickly and compassionately to those reaching out to us. If you live within our 20-county service area, we’re here for you. In addition to our offices in Hays, there are five full-time Branch Offices located in Colby, Goodland, Norton, Osborne and Phillipsburg. Services are available on a regular basis in Wallace, Rawlins, Logan, Decatur, Gove, Norton, Graham, Trego, Ness, Rooks, Rush, Smith and Russell counties. Outpatient Therapist Needed – Apply Now to Join a Supportive Team

Location: Hays, Kansas 

Pay: from $64,218 per year (salaried) | Incentive Pay | $325 sign-on bonus | $200 optional Saturday clinic bonus

Job Type: Full-Time | In-Person

Schedule: Monday – Friday 8am-5pm (+ >3 hours outside normal business hours per week | 40 hours / week total)

What You’ll Do: 

  • Deliver high-quality, evidence-based therapy for individuals, families, and groups, addressing diverse mental health needs with compassion and expertise.
  • Conduct thorough intake assessments to identify client needs and establish a strong foundation for effective treatment.
  • Design and implement personalized, goal-driven treatment plans that empower clients and promote measurable progress.
  • Collaborate closely with a multidisciplinary team and community partners to ensure seamless, coordinated care and holistic support for clients.
  • Maintain accurate, timely clinical documentation that meets agency standards and supports continuity of care.
  • Engage in ongoing professional development through regular clinical supervision, constructive feedback, and active participation in team meetings—helping you achieve your personal career goals and setting you up for long-term success.

Requirements

  •  Master’s or doctoral degree in a relevant field (e.g., Psychology, Social Work, Counseling, Marriage and Family Therapy)
  • Current Kansas BSRB licensure as one of the following:

o Licensed Psychologist, Licensed Master Level Psychologist, or Licensed Clinical Psychotherapist

o Licensed Master Social Worker (clinical track) or Licensed Specialist Clinical Social Worker

o Licensed Professional Counselor or Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor with Mental Health Training track (or equivalent experience)

o Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist or Licensed Clinical Marriage and Family Therapist

  • Valid driver’s license and driving record that meets insurability requirements (if using Center vehicle)
  • Ability to pass all required background checks and pre-employment drug screening
