About the Role

POSITION SUMMARY

Under the supervision of the Site Director, the Teacher will work in the classroom with the lead teacher and other teachers while ensuring a safe and enriching classroom environment for children.

Requirements

Essential Functions

  • Incorporate and model our YMCA core values into your work
  • Commit to establishing long-term work relationships with staff, volunteers, participants, members and families
  • Ability to communicate well with children, staff and parents
  • Ability to work independent as well as create and lead work teams
  • Ability and willingness to obtain and keep current CPR/First Aid certifications
  • Ability and willingness to perform any and all jobs in the program, including tasks of a Program Aide
  • Ability and willingness to participate in 15 hours of job-related training annually
  • Ability to sit on floor or child sized chair, stand for 1-hour periods, occasionally lift 50 lbs. and crouch for 15 minutes
  • Ability to multitask
  • Respond appropriately to all and any emergency situations
  • Perform all other duties as assigned by supervising lead teacher or site director
  • Complete all record keeping in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Work with the Program Lead to design and implement a daily schedule which includes activities to enhance the development of cognitive, social, emotional and physical skills.
  • Sub for program leads/program associates if available

Additional Functions:

  • Participate in all Regional Staff meetings and functions
  • Ability to work well in high stress situations, responding properly to critical incidents, and act swiftly in emergency situations
  • Must be able to establish harmonious relations with staff team, volunteers, school districts, and local partners
  • Visual and auditory ability to respond to critical incidents and the physical ability to act swiftly in an emergency situation
  • Knowledgeable of programs monitored

REQUIREMENTS

  • Must pass YMCA background check
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • 20 credit hours in Education or related field or at least 1 year of experience in a licensed child care/school facility.
  • Must meet all standards as dictated by the state Child Care Division
  • Obtain Food Handlers within first 30 days
  • CPR and First Aid certifications or ability to acquire certifications within 30 days of employment
  • Prior work experience with childcare preferred
  • Reliable transportation to travel to sites across South Region (Tigard, West Linn, McMinnville etc.)
  • Attire: Clean ‘nice’ bottoms (jeans, pants), staff shirt and name tag

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Work is performed at Alberta Rider, James Templeton, and Metzger Elementary school’s YMCA Before and after school program and occasionally at sites in the West Linn, Beaverton and Portland areas. At times, work will be performed outside of “normal work hours” dependent on current programs/events being offered. Work attire; clean ‘nice’ bottoms (black/khaki pants/shorts), YMCA staff shirt, and YMCA name tag.
