About the Role

Description

Summary

Reporting to the Manufacturing Engineering Manager, the Manufacturing and Safety Technician supports the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of workplace safety and environmental programs, training, and compliance initiatives. This role works closely with manufacturing teams and leadership to promote employee engagement, ensure regulatory compliance, and support Wagner’s commitment to operational excellence.

The position provides safety and environmental support across all Wagner facilities and plays a key role in advancing a positive safety culture, supporting employee well-being, and protecting the company’s people, customers, and environment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Safety Culture & Manufacturing Support

  1. Support company-wide safety culture initiatives by engaging employees and leadership to promote continuous improvement in safety performance.
  2. Assist in the development, administration, and delivery of employee safety, compliance, and health orientation programs.
  3. Coordinate and conduct classroom and on-the-job safety training with guidance from the immediate supervisor.
  4. Participate in incident and near-miss investigations, including identifying root causes and recommending corrective actions.
  5. Maintain and support the Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) program.
  6. Maintain Safety Data Sheet (SDS) documentation and chemical inventory records.
  7. Distribute, track, and monitor preventative maintenance work orders related to equipment inspections.
  8. Support lean manufacturing initiatives, including 5S, Kaizen, and waste reduction activities.
  9. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify opportunities for process and safety improvements.
  10. Provide safety and compliance support across all company facilities to ensure consistent standards and practices.

Environmental Compliance

  1. Support compliance with applicable federal, state, and local environmental regulations through ongoing monitoring and documentation.
  2. Assist in the preparation and submission of Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) permits, reports, and required documentation under the direction of operations leadership.
  3. Maintain and support contracts with approved vendors for external monitoring and environmental services.
  4. Coordinate waste disposal, scrap management, and recycling programs, serving as a primary point of contact for related vendors.

Administrative & Facility Support

  1. Maintain accurate RoHS compliance documentation and provide required declarations to the Sales Department.
  2. Assist the Facilities Manager in coordinating contractor activities, ensuring adherence to safety, environmental, and compliance requirements.
  3. Support facility maintenance and operations teams in tasks that uphold regulatory, safety, and operational standards.
  4. Perform other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

Qualifications

Education and Experience

  1. Associate degree in Occupational Safety and Health, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field required; bachelor’s degree preferred.
  2. Three to five years of related experience preferred.
  3. One to three years of ERP system experience preferred.
  4. Experience in a manufacturing environment preferred.
  5. Experience with continuous improvement methodologies such as Lean or Six Sigma preferred.
  6. Familiarity with basic manufacturing engineering principles and tools (e.g., just-in-time production, process mapping, root-cause analysis).

Job Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  1. Working knowledge of OSHA requirements, industrial safety principles, and environmental regulations.
  2. Ability to interpret regulatory requirements and support the implementation of safety and environmental programs, policies, and procedures.
  3. Experience designing, delivering, or supporting effective employee training programs.
  4. Proficiency with tools, technology, and equipment used for safety inspections and environmental compliance monitoring.
  5. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a continuous improvement mindset.
  6. Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  7. Strong organizational skills with attention to detail.
  8. Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and build positive working relationships across all levels of the organization.
  9. Demonstrated initiative and ability to work independently when appropriate.
  10. Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and internet-based systems.

Physical Demands

Additionally, employees must regularly engage in activities such as sitting, standing, walking, speaking, and listening. Occasionally, employees may need to bend, stoop, balance, and move within the facility. Specific vision abilities necessary for this role include close vision, distant vision, peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus. Furthermore, employees may occasionally lift and/or move objects weighing up to twenty-five pounds.
