Axolabs Berlin, Berlin, Germany Axolabs Berlin is currently establishing a new site in Berlin for GMP manufacturing of nucleic acid therapeutics. The site will be dedicated to medium to large scale and early to late phase clinical GMP manufacturing of nucleic acid therapeutics. The state-of-the-art facility will deliver integrated analytical and manufacturing solutions. The operational start date is scheduled for 2025. Axolabs Petaluma, Petaluma, California, USA Axolabs operates a cGMP production facility in Petaluma for oligonucleotide compounds for technical, toxicological and preclinical to late-stage clinical trials. Services: bioinformatics, oligonucleotide synthesis, analytics and in vitro / in vivo analysis.

Job Description

We are seeking a seasoned and dynamic Senior Finance Manager to join our finance team. This role is ideal for a qualified finance professional with over 8 years of post-qualification experience (PQE), deep expertise in German GAAP and German Tax, and ideally a strong background in manufacturing or the pharmaceutical/life sciences industry. The successful candidate will demonstrate gravitas, attention to detail, and strong presentation skills. They will act as a strategic finance business partner to senior stakeholders and lead continuous improvement initiatives across finance operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage the finance team, fostering a culture of excellence and continuous improvement.
  • Drive strategic finance business partnering with senior stakeholders to influence operational and financial performance.
  • Ensure full compliance with German GAAP and German tax regulations, including statutory accounts and tax filings.
  • Oversee budgeting, forecasting, and long-term financial planning processes.
  • Present financial insights and recommendations to senior leadership with clarity and impact.
  • Enhance efficiency, accuracy, and transparency in financial reporting and cost accounting processes.
  • Support financial period close activities, including reconciliations and intercompany transactions.
  • Provide financial support for project execution, including planning, tracking, and reporting of project-related financial activities
  • Collaborate with auditors, tax advisors, and internal teams to ensure timely and accurate reporting.
  • Monitor and analyze key financial metrics and cost drivers to support decision-making.
  • Champion process optimization and automation initiatives within the finance function.
  • Lead and develop the local finance team
  • Manage relationship with BPO

Qualifications

Required Qualifications & Experience

  • Recognised qualification in accounting and / or tax (e.g., Bilanzbuchhalter*in IHK, Steuerberater*in, or equivalent academic degree)
  • Minimum 8 years PQE in finance roles, including leadership experience.
  • Strong technical knowledge of German GAAP and German tax compliance is a must
  • Ideally proven experience in a manufacturing or pharma/life sciences environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to partner with senior stakeholders and influence strategic decisions.
  • Excellent presentation skills and ability to communicate effectively across cultures and time zones.
  • Experienced managing Business Process Outsourcer (BPO)
  • Proficient in ERP systems (e.g. IFS) and advanced Excel skills.
  • Fluent in English and German language is absolutely essential, C1/C2
