Underwriting Manager

Position Overview:
The Underwriting Manager is responsible for leading the underwriting team, ensuring accurate risk assessment, compliance, and strategic alignment with business goals.
Key Responsibilities:
Producer (P) – Delivering Results
- Oversee daily underwriting operations to meet service and quality standards.
- Review and approve complex or high-value cases.
- Provide technical guidance and mentoring to underwriters.
· Review and respond to deficiencies post-close.
· Perform other duties as assigned.
Administrator (A) – Ensuring Processes and Compliance
- Develop and maintain underwriting policies and procedures.
- Learn and maintain knowledge of various loan program guidelines.
- Ensure adherence to regulatory requirements and internal audit standards.
- Monitor performance metrics and prepare regular reports for leadership.
Entrepreneur (E) – Driving Innovation and Strategy
- Analyze market trends and adjust underwriting strategies to maintain competitiveness.
- Identify new risk factors and recommend product or process enhancements.
- Collaborate with Sales, Actuarial, and Product teams to align underwriting with business objectives.
Integrator (I) – Building Culture and Collaboration
- Foster a positive team culture based on trust and mutual respect.
- Recruit, train, and develop underwriting staff.
- Serve as liaison between underwriting and other departments.
- Conduct regular perform reviews and implement performance improvement plans.
- Issue disciplinary actions and terminations when required.
Requirements
Education/Experience:
· Minimum 7+ years underwriting experience in mortgage banking; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
· Minimum 3 years of previous management experience required
· Knowledge of Conforming, FHA, VA and USDA Programs and guidelines
· Must have current FHA Chums/DE Underwriting ID number with a minimum of 7 years’ experience
· VA LAPP recommended but not required
· Non-QM experience recommended but not required
· Experience with Encompass recommended but not required
· Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
· Proven ability to manage compliance and innovate processes.
· Ability to work under pressure on multiple projects within deadlines
• Ability to effectively prioritize workload and manage changes in direction.
• Ability to work flexible hours when needed
Travel:
· As needed travel internationally between United States and Mexico to meet business needs.
Language:
· English required, Bi-Lingual (English/Spanish) desired.
