Job Description
As a Senior Credit Quantitative Analyst, you will play a critical role in the development, optimisation, and ongoing monitoring of credit origination and underwriting strategies. You will apply advanced quantitative analysis and credit risk expertise to support responsible growth, profitability, and portfolio quality across lending products.This role combines strategic ownership of originations frameworks with hands-on analytical execution, requiring strong commercial judgement, technical modelling skills, and close collaboration with Product, Data, Operations, and Finance teams.
KEY RESULT AREAS
Credit Originations & Underwriting Strategy
- Drive the development, analysis, and continuous improvement of credit origination strategies, ensuring alignment with risk appetite and business objectives.
- Own and optimise scorecard cut-offs, banding strategies, and decision thresholds to balance approval rates, risk, and profitability.
- Design, implement, and maintain credit policy rules across originations, ensuring robust risk controls and regulatory compliance.
- Support the development of loan pricing and credit limit strategies, incorporating risk-based pricing principles and customer segmentation.
- Lead portfolio segmentation analysis to identify risk, behavioural, and profitability trends across customer cohorts.
Credit Risk & Analytics
- Develop, enhance, and monitor decisioning frameworks used in underwriting and originations.
- Perform deep-dive profitability, loss, and performance analysis to evaluate the impact of underwriting and pricing strategies.
- Monitor key origination and early-life performance metrics (e.g. approval rates, bad rates, roll rates, vintage performance).
- Conduct scenario analysis and stress testing to assess the impact of strategy changes on portfolio risk and returns.
Credit Assessment & Decisioning
- Assess complex or high-value credit applications, exercising expert judgement in credit approval decisions where required.
- Provide guidance and escalation support for underwriting teams on policy interpretation and exception handling.
- Ensure consistent, data-driven decisioning across credit approval processes.
Risk Governance & Stakeholder Collaboration
- Work closely with cross-functional stakeholders to embed originations strategies into systems, processes, and operational workflows.
- Support governance forums by preparing insights, recommendations, and performance reporting on underwriting and originations outcomes.
- Contribute to the ongoing refinement of risk appetite, lending standards, and credit risk frameworks.
Skills & Experience
- Strong experience in credit risk analytics, underwriting, or originations strategy, ideally within retail consumer or SME lending.
- Advanced quantitative and analytical skills, including experience with scorecards, policy rules, pricing, and limit strategies.
- Proven ability to translate complex analysis into clear, commercially focused recommendations.
- Strong stakeholder management skills and the ability to influence strategy at a senior level.
- Comfortable working across strategy, analytics, and operational decisioning in a fast-paced environment.
ROLE REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor’s degree in Statistics, Mathematics, or related fields.
- 5 Years + working within a retail credit environment
- Strong reporting and analytics background within Financial Services industry
- Credit underwriting experience in a digital bank is advantageous.
- Proficiency in SAS programming is advantageous.
