About the Role
<p>We are seeking a dependable and motivated Steward to join our operations team. This position is open to applicants from all backgrounds and is gender neutral. The role involves supporting front-of-house and back-of-house functions, maintaining high standards of cleanliness and safety, and assisting with basic food service and kitchen support where required. The successful candidate will be attentive, organised and comfortable working in a fast-paced environment.</p><h3>Key responsibilities for Steward</h3><ul><li><p>Maintain cleanliness of service areas, kitchens, dishwashing stations and back-of-house spaces to company standards, including washing, drying and storing crockery, cutlery and glassware.</p></li><li><p>Clear and clean tables, bussing dining areas promptly and resetting covers as directed by supervisors or front-of-house staff.</p></li><li><p>Operate dishwashing equipment safely and efficiently, ensuring sanitisation procedures are followed and chemical handling guidelines are observed.</p></li><li><p>Assist with basic food preparation tasks as required, such as peeling, chopping, portioning and plating under the supervision of kitchen staff.</p></li><li><p>Support stock control by receiving deliveries, checking quantities and quality, labelling and storing supplies correctly and rotating stock to minimise waste.</p></li><li><p>Maintain cleaning rotas and checklists, complete assigned cleaning and maintenance tasks within allocated timeframes and report equipment faults or hazards to management.</p></li><li><p>Dispose of waste according to company and local regulations, including recycling and safe handling of hazardous substances where applicable.</p></li><li><p>Ensure dishwashing and storage areas are organised, tidy and compliant with hygiene standards at all times.</p></li><li><p>Provide courteous and professional support to kitchen and front-of-house colleagues, responding to reasonable requests and helping maintain a positive team environment.</p></li><li><p>Adhere to health and safety and food hygiene policies, use personal protective equipment where required and participate in relevant training.</p></li></ul><h3>Required skills and experience for Steward</h3><ul><li><p>Previous experience in a stewarding, kitchen porter or similar role desirable but not essential; full training will be provided.</p></li><li><p>Good attention to detail with a consistent approach to cleanliness, presentation and hygiene.</p></li><li><p>Basic communication skills in English; additional languages are an advantage.</p></li><li><p>Ability to follow instructions, work independently and as part of a team with a positive, professional attitude.</p></li><li><p>Physically fit and able to carry out manual tasks, including lifting, bending and standing for extended periods during shifts.</p></li><li><p>Reliable, punctual and organised with good time-management skills and the ability to prioritise tasks during busy service periods.</p></li><li><p>Awareness of basic health, safety and hygiene practices and willingness to complete relevant training and certifications.</p></li></ul><h4>Qualifications and certifications preferred</h4><ul><li><p>Level 1 or 2 Food Safety and Hygiene certificate desirable where role includes handling food; training can be provided during induction if required.</p></li><li><p>Basic health and safety training or a recognised stewarding/kitchen porter qualification is advantageous but not required.</p></li></ul><h4>Working hours, salary and benefits</h4><ul><li><p>Full-time and part-time contracts available; shift patterns include early mornings, evenings, weekends and bank holidays in line with operational needs.</p></li><li><p>Competitive salary based on experience with opportunities for additional hours during events or busy periods.</p></li><li><p>Benefits may include staff meals during shifts, training and development support, staff discounts, pension contributions and a supportive work environment.</p></li></ul><h5>How to apply — Steward</h5><p>Please submit your CV and a brief cover letter outlining your relevant experience, availability and any qualifications.
