Description
PURPOSE STATEMENT
The Quality and Emergency Management Coordinator ensures that the hospital and its entities prepare and maintain compliance with safe practices during emergency situations, guide policies, procedures and protocols that are consistent with national standards, The Joint Commission (TJC), Center for Disease Control (CDC) guidelines, criteria and documentation.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Keep informed of activities or changes that could affect the likelihood of an emergency, as well as those that could affect response efforts and details of plan implementation.
- Prepare emergency situation status reports that describe response and recovery efforts, needs, and preliminary damage assessments.
- Coordinate plans that outline operating procedures to be used in response to disasters or emergencies, such as tornados, nuclear accidents, and terrorist attacks, and in recovery from these events.
- Coordinate disaster response or crisis management activities, such as ordering evacuations, opening public shelters, and implementing special needs plans and programs.
- Develop and maintain liaisons with municipalities, county departments, and similar entities to facilitate plan development, response effort, coordination, and exchanges of personnel and equipment.
- Ensure surveillance in and around the facilities occurs as designated by ongoing assessment and evaluation of TJC criteria. Analyze trends, risk factors, and evaluate all prevention and control strategies monthly. Collect data on all environmental factors in both inpatient and outpatient areas that are deemed at risk. Evaluate the effectiveness of the surveillance plan and modify as necessary in consultation with the leadership team.
- Participate in Quality Improvement activities by assessing, monitoring, and measuring and evaluating outcomes on a continuous basis.
- Assists with monitoring and maintaining Physical Environment compliance, including fire safety, building safety features, egress pathways, emergency lighting, fire doors, and fire protection systems.
- Participates in routine Physical Environment rounds to identify, report, and correct safety risks or deficiencies.
- Maintains awareness of new and updated Physical Environment regulations and Joint Commission standards and supports integration into daily operations.
- Supports documentation, data collection, and evidence preparation for regulatory surveys and accreditation readiness.
- Coordinate, lead, and participate in hospital-wide drill activities.
- Demonstrate knowledge of regulating bodies and accreditation agencies.
- Knowledge in team leadership and facilitating.
- Knowledge in data aggregation, display, and use.
- Incident Command Training and collaboration.
Requirements
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/SKILL REQUIREMENTS
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Bachelor’s in Healthcare Management preferred.
- Emergency Management Training preferred.
PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS
- Must be able to sit and stand intermittent 8 to 10 hours a day.
- Must be able to use standard office equipment, including the telephone and computer keyboard.
- Continuously works under pressure of near 100% accuracy while meeting inflexible deadlines.
- Continuously utilizes manual/bi-manual dexterity, near vision, speech, and hearing.
- Frequently stands, walks, sits and utilizes eye/hand coordination and color definition.
- Occasionally reaches above shoulder, regularly required to lift and/or carry up to 40 lbs.
- Occasionally walks on uneven surfaces.
