Job Summary:


Kovitz Shifrin Nesbit is growing! A well-established and leading real estate tax firm focusing on the appeal of commercial, industrial, and investment property is seeking a Commercial/Industrial Analyst­­­­­ for our Homewood, IL office. Must have strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills. Must be comfortable working independently yet be a team player. Must be able to efficiently manage multiple projects and exercise good judgment in dealing with highly confidential matters. The starting salary for this position is $68,000, contingent upon level of experience. Business hours for this exempt position are 9:00am. to 5:00pm, Monday through Friday. This is an in-office position, without the potential to work hybrid.

Duties/Responsibilities:


· Prepare and timely file property tax appeal complaints and supporting documentation for residential, commercial, and industrial properties.

· Draft factual summaries and preliminary briefs for attorney review, including analysis of income-producing properties and development projects (new construction, rehabilitation, demolition).

· Collect, organize, and submit supporting evidence such as appraisals, rent rolls, vacancy affidavits, and related documentation.

· Manage case dockets to ensure compliance with all filing deadlines, hearings, and evidentiary requirements.

· Review and analyze assessment records, tax histories, and property record cards to identify appeal opportunities or discrepancies.

· Track and assist with tax objection matters in Circuit Court, including court calls and document production.

· Maintain and update case-tracking databases to monitor status and outcomes.

· Serve as a primary point of contact for clients regarding data requests, case status updates, and general inquiries.

· Coordinate with County officials on hearing schedules, refund processing, and certificate of error applications.

· Draft clear, professional correspondence for clients, attorneys, and government agencies.

· After completion of training, support economic development and tax incentive matters, including Class 6b, 7, and 8 incentive applications, renewal affidavits, and Tax Increment Financing (TIF)-related filings.

Requirements

Required Qualifications:


· Ability to draft and edit clear, professional business correspondence with strong grammar and attention to detail.

· Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word, Outlook, and Access, with the ability to quickly learn new software and database systems.

· Exceptional attention to detail with the ability to independently manage a high volume of cases, deadlines, and competing priorities.

· Professionalism, tact, and diplomacy when interacting with clients, attorneys, and government personnel.


Preferred Qualifications:


· Bachelor’s degree, Associate’s degree, or Paralegal Certificate.

· Prior experience in a law firm, real estate company, or municipal government.

· Familiarity with the Cook County property tax process and procedures.
