About the Role

The Job Opportunity and Duties…

Guided by the agency's mission "To reduce recidivism among those we touch," the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction is looking for a dedicated security minded professional to assume the responsibilities of a Parole Services Supervisor in the Cincinnati Region. This position is UNCLASSIFIED and serves as the Assistant to the Regional Administrator.   Headquarter county will be determined upon candidate selection.

Job Duties:  

*Directly supervises a unit consisting of senior officer(s), parole officers and clerical staff. 
*Determines work priorities, give work assignments (i.e. distribution of new supervision cases & investigations), staff cases & reviews all recommendations concerning supervision cases to ensure community safety. 
*Reviews & approves travel authorization and contact sheets (working hours and accountability).
*Reviews written reports for content & accuracy.
*Approves requests for leave, overtime and comp. time requests, and employee time in KRONOS. 
*Reviews & approves work products (investigation & supervision reports).
*Identifies needs & establishes training goals for unit. 
*Conducts &/or arranges for training opportunities (i.e. On-the-Job & In-Service). 
*Completes & conducts timely performance evaluation reviews. 
*Conducts investigations & presents at pre-disciplinary hearings of alleged staff misconduct. 
*Initiates discipline action. 
*Conducts staff meetings. 
*Interprets & disseminates policies, procedures & programs.  
*Interviews & conducts pre-employment background investigations as assigned. 
*Interview applicants & makes recommendations for hire.
*Ensures direct supervision of parolees & probationers by officers, verifies & updates offender information in CCIS, and/or all applicable supervision portals.
*Routinely checks FOT (Field Officer Tools) for accuracy and compliance.
*Reviews & approves recommendations for sentencing, rehabilitation plans, supervision terminations & the collection of supervision fees.
*Presents violation hearings as needed. 
*Establishes & maintains working relationships with courts/judges, task force agencies, other law enforcement organizations and ODRC partners.
*Ensures and verifies that ORAS assessments and case plans are completed.
*Responsible for developing and implementing a quality assurance plan for their unit which includes observations, file reviews, ORAS system reviews and documentation for ORAS and evidence-based supervision practices.
*Updates & compiles monthly & ad hoc statistical reports/CCIS as needed.
*Collects & maintains documentation for ACA & internal management audits. 
*Responds verbally or in writing to requests & inquiries.
*Assists Regional Administrator in developing community resources. 
*Develops & maintains community relations through partnerships & cross training with other agencies. 
*Attends meetings, conferences, & training. 
*Participates on committees, teams & workgroups. 
*Responds to offender grievances & correspondence. 
*Completes special assignments as directed by Regional Administrator.
*May be required to carry & maintain proficiency in use of firearm &/or pepper spray.
*May be on call 24 hours per day as Parole duty officer.
*Travel required.
*Valid Ohio driver’s license. 



6 yrs. trg. or 6 yrs. exp. in community corrections to include report writing, offender treatment referrals, offender service delivery & participation in corrections/criminal justice agencies operations & investigations; 6 mos. trg. or 6 mos. exp. providing work direction &/or training; valid Ohio driver's license.

-Or completion of undergraduate core program in criminology, criminal justice, law enforcement, sociology, social work, psychology or related field; 48 mos. trg. or 48 mos. exp. in community corrections to include report writing, offender treatment referrals, offender service delivery & participation in corrections/criminal justice agencies operations & investigations; 6 mos. trg. or 6 mos. exp. providing work direction &/or training; valid Ohio driver's license.

-Or completion of graduate core program in criminology, criminal justice, law enforcement, sociology, social work, psychology or related field; 36 mos. trg. or 36 mos. exp. in community corrections to include report writing, offender treatment referrals, offender service delivery & participation in correction/criminal justice agencies operations & investigations; 6 mos. trg. or 6 mos. exp. providing work direction &/or training; valid Ohio driver's license. 12 mos. exp. as Senior Parole Officer, 69812; valid Ohio driver's license.

-Or equivalent evidence of Minimum Qualifications For Employment noted above.
