Position Summary
The SMT Operator reports to the SMT Lead and Production Manager and is responsible for setting up, operating, and maintaining Surface Mount Technology (SMT) equipment. This role ensures printed circuit boards are assembled to specifications and work instructions while meeting FUSION’s quality, safety, and on time delivery standards. The SMT Operator works closely with Engineering and Manufacturing teams to support efficient, high-quality production.
Essential Functions
- Operate Surface Mount Machines according to the standard operating procedures.
- Perform machine set-up and maintenance according to their documented procedures.
- Set-up Feeders for SMT pick and place machines.
- Operate SMT pick and place machines.
- Hand Place SMT parts on stenciled boards.
- Maintain a clean and orderly work area.
- Set-up and operate automated stencil printers.
- Communicate machine operation status to management as needed or required.
Requirements
Knowledge, skills and abilities:
- Strong attention to detail.
- Operate SMT pick and place machines (Mycronic or Juki experience preferred).
- Ability to work from written English work instructions required.
- Ability to read and write English required.
- Basic computer skills required.
- Must be a US person.
Preferred:
- Operating knowledge of AOI and X-ray machines.
- SMT Machine operation. Electronics manufacturing environment.
Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged periods standing and performing repetitive tasks.
- Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds at a time.
- Must have manual dexterity to assemble products or machines as directed.
- Must have excellent hand-eye coordination.
- Ability to differentiate between colored wires, tabs, and electronic components.
