The Opportunity
As an Accountant within the Australian Defence and Security Solutions (ADSS) business, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the integrity, accuracy, and timeliness of financial outcomes across a complex and fast-paced project environment supporting critical national capability.
This role is central to the successful delivery of month-end and year-end close activities, compliance obligations, and project financial support, contributing directly to sound financial governance and informed decision-making across the business.
We are seeking an accounting professional with 5+ years of practical experience who enjoys working in a hands-on capacity with projects and stakeholders, thrives in a collaborative environment, and is confident navigating complexity. You will bring strong problem-solving capability, attention to detail, and the ability to communicate effectively with cross-functional teams including Project Controls, Functional Leaders, and Corporate Finance.
This opportunity suits a highly organised individual with strong time management skills who is motivated by working in a structured, compliance-driven environment while also adding value through business partnering and analytical insight.
Responsibilities
The key responsibilities of the role will include, but are not limited to:
Financial Close & Compliance
Support monthly, quarterly, and annual close activities, including review and upload of project journals, reconciliations, and validation of financial results
Partner with Project Controls to support variance analysis and ensure completeness and accuracy of project financial data
Deliver assigned SOX compliance activities and maintain supporting documentation to meet internal control requirements
Project & Financial Operations
Manage new project financial set-ups, collaborating with Project Controls and Master Data teams to ensure accurate configuration and timely activation
Maintain accountability for Balance Sheet Kart reconciliations, ensuring variances are investigated and resolved within reporting timelines
Provide support to weekly and monthly reporting cycles to enable business performance visibility
Audit & Governance
Assist with internal and external audit processes, including preparation of supporting schedules and responses to information requests
Support SOX testing and compliance activities as required
Business Partnering & Analysis
Act as a finance partner to Project Controls and Functional Leads, supporting understanding of financial outcomes and drivers
Facilitate monthly variance review discussions with Functional Leads, providing insight and highlighting areas requiring attention
Planning & Team Support
Contribute to the annual budget and forecast processes, including data preparation, validation, and system uploads
Provide cross-coverage and support to team members during peak periods or leave, including exposure to AR/AP activities
Undertake additional reporting and ad-hoc tasks as required to support team and business priorities
Qualifications, Skills and Experience
Bachelor's degree or certification in a related field (required)
Previous experience in Defence Industry (desirable)
CPA/CA Accredited, or studying towards (required)
Experience using CostPoint & Power BI (desirable)
Advanced Excel skills
Well-developed communication and time management skills.
Attention to detail and a commitment to data accuracy.
Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
Ability to obtain AGSVA security clearance (minimum Baseline)
