About the Role

Description

First National Bank is seeking a detail-oriented and dedicated Mortgage Loan Processing Specialist to join our Credit Management team in Altavista, VA. In this role, you will be managing loan files throughout the residential mortgage process, from application to closing. You will ensure accurate documentation, regulatory compliance, and timely communication with internal and external stakeholders. In addition to supporting Loan Officers and Consumer Real Estate Specialists, you will be preparing loan files for underwriting, coordinating with third parties, and facilitating smooth closings. What will you be doing in this role?

  • Proactively gathers and reviews documentation from the applicant and any applicable third parties to prepare for underwriting including but not limited to appraisal order, flood certifications, and title work orders. Maintains all required documentation in lending software for various types of mortgage loans.
  • Monitors and manages assigned loan pipeline to ensure timely progression of files, proactively identifying delays and resolving bottlenecks.
  • Regularly communicates with third parties including customers, attorneys, loan officers, and other persons in a professional and courteous manner. Ensures the mortgage loan status is communicated to Loan Officers and the applicant frequently from application to closing.
  • Ensures readiness of mortgage loan files for loan closings, sends loan closing documentations and loan proceeds to closing agent to meet closing deadlines.
  • Collaborates with team members and Management to foster a healthy and effective work environment that continuously improves processes and manages risk.

Requirements

What will you need?

  • High School graduate or equivalent required. Associate's or Bachelor's degree in business, finance, or a related field preferred.
  • Minimum of 2 years mortgage processing experience, preferably with a bank or title company. Knowledge of mortgage lending laws and Real Estate compliance guidelines and ability to implement them.
  • Reputation for excellence in customer service and commitment to maintaining a strong focus on enhancing customer service skills and knowledge.
  • Well-organized, detail-oriented, problem solver who shows strong initiative and works quickly. Ability to accurately input data with very little margin for error.
  • Strong interpersonal and verbal communication skills with ability to understand and carry out instructions, produce reports, organize information, speak clearly and effectively communicate information to customers, peers and management.
