Accounting Manager

Areté Collective is seeking an experienced Accounting Manager to support our growing portfolio of real estate development projects. This role is ideal for a detail-oriented accounting professional who thrives in a project-driven environment and enjoys partnering cross-functionally to deliver accurate, timely, and strategic financial insight.
Reporting to the Director of Accounting, the Accounting Manager will oversee day-to-day project accounting operations, ensure strong internal controls, and supervise accounting staff. This individual will play a key role in maintaining financial transparency, compliance, and operational excellence across development initiatives.
Project & Operational Accounting
- Oversee day-to-day project accounting for real estate development projects, including job cost tracking, capital expenditures, and budget monitoring.
- Prepare and review monthly project financial statements and supporting schedules.
- Conduct detailed variance analysis and collaborate with project managers to address discrepancies and forecast performance.
- Monitor project cash activity and assist with short-term cash flow forecasting (30/60/90 days).
- Review and approve vendor invoices, draw requests, lien waivers, and contract documentation for accuracy and proper coding.
- Account for daily cash transactions in NetSuite ERP.
Financial Reporting & Compliance
- Manage the monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes for development entities.
- Ensure compliance with GAAP and internal accounting policies and procedures.
- Prepare audit schedules and coordinate documentation requests for external auditors.
- Support tax reporting requirements related to development projects.
- Prepare and analyze monthly financial statements for review with accounting and finance leaders.
Budgeting & Internal Controls
- Assist in preparing annual budgets and reforecasts for development projects and related operating expenses.
- Develop, implement, and maintain effective internal controls over project accounting and cost reporting.
- Identify and implement process improvements to enhance reporting accuracy and operational efficiency.
Leadership & Cross-Functional Partnership
- Supervise and mentor accounting staff, including reviewing work for accuracy and completeness.
- Serve as a key financial liaison to project managers, development teams, and other internal stakeholders.
- Collaborate with finance, legal, and operations teams on contract administration and support for complex real estate transactions, including acquisitions and sales.
- Provide recommendations and financial insights to support strategic project decisions.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field; CPA preferred.
- 5-7+ years of accounting experience, preferably in the real estate, construction, or development fields.
- Strong understanding of project/job cost accounting and capital project reporting.
- Experience with real estate accounting systems preferred (e.g., Yardi, Deltek, NetSuite).
