Position: Manager, Power Up Mentoring 

Location: Philadelphia, PA (on-site School 5 days per week) 

Employment Status: Exempt Fulltime 

Reporting to: Director, Power Up

JOB DESCRIPTION 

Big Brothers Big Sisters Independence (BBBSI) seeks a Program Manager for POWER Up, our embedded in schools' model, to lead the program stationed at Barry Elementary, one of the three schools POWER Up currently works with. This this role involves supervising and coaching a team of Lead Mentors who provide 1:1 and group mentoring to 50 middle school students each. The Manager ensures effective program delivery, seamless communication and fosters positive development in their Lead Mentors. 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES 

Leadership & Coaching: 

· Assists in training for Lead Mentors  

· Facilitates daily and weekly check-ins, coaching, and support for Lead Mentors  

· Coaches and supports Leads through regular 1:1s 

· Supervises on-site mentoring, ensuring compliance with BBBSI and school policies. 

· Conducts observations of mentoring sessions as scheduled 

Match Force, Survey & Data Responsibilities 

· Complete Match Support contacts for each Little each semester  

· Complete Match Support contacts with each Lead Mentor each semester  

· Enter Little SOR data 

· Complete YOS/COS surveys (baseline at application and follow-up) 

· Monitor reports and dashboards to ensure that enrollment and matching are happening as expected 

· Monitor reports and dashboards to ensure that surveys, goals and MSCs are happening as expected. Provide support as needed to Leads. 

· Ensure that Session Snapshots are completed regularly and monitor outcomes 

· Provide needed data to Director and Leadership as requested 

· Send 2 Week, Closure and other communication to P/G 

Customer Relations and Enrollment  

· Receive and respond to calls, emails, texts regarding the programming at assigned schools  

· Pursue inquires by calling parents/guardians to assist in completing the application 

· Process youth applications  

· Serve as a back up to conducts interviews of Littles?as needed 

· Makes recommendations for Little’s Match groups as needed 

· Makes recommendations for 1:1 matches for Littles as needed 

· In collaboration with Director, facilitate regular site visits in a manner that respects our Littles and meets Stakeholder needs 

Logistics and Operations 

· Ensures all program materials are prepared, customized and ready for use at the site  

· Makes updates or changes as needed to program materials  

· Designs attendance plan for Littles and ensures effective implementation and record keeping 

· Keeps all student rosters, spreadsheets, forms, etc. up to date with Littles’ information 

· Oversees scheduling of groups in collaboration with the school team  

· Conducts monthly check-ins with school points of contact and keeps team informed 

· Communicates all program logistics, schedules, and updates to the appropriate school personnel for cohesive program implementation 

· Provides session coverage in the event of a Lead Mentor absence 

· Maintains an active and visible presence in the school, particularly, in the grade level served 

· Attends school faculty meetings and training, as appropriate 

· In collaboration with school staff, coordinate additional activities such as Town Halls, Field Trips and school activities 

Requirements

  

Academic Requirements:? 

High School Diploma with a minimum of 6 years relevant work experience in related fields, such as social work, counseling, social services, child development, or education. Previous experience working in school classrooms or other coaching situations is strongly preferred. Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in a related field preferred. 

Skills and Professional Requirements: 

• Minimum 2+ years functional experience in a human service or teaching environment required, ideally in a Middle School 

• Minimum 3+ years management/supervisory experience required 

• Passion for youth development and a commitment to BBBSI mission, vision and values 

• Shared lived experience with Littles is ideal 

• Education experience (e.g., paraprofessional, coaching), preferably in Middle Schools 

• Demonstrated ability to work with and motivate a wide variety of diverse groups, with a preference for candidates with lived experience in racially, ethnically, and socio-economically diverse urban and/or recent immigrant communities. 

• Attentive and active listening skills, organization, flexible thinking, attention to detail, ability to function well in a fast-paced environment and works well on a team 

• Strong understanding of child development and family dynamics 

• Ability to effectively interview, assess, and manage cases? 

• Ability to build and foster positive, productive, collaborative relationships with school staff, Lead Mentor, families, and Littles based on positive youth development and volunteer satisfaction 

• Ability to effectively assess and execute the following relational support skills: guiding, supporting, confronting, advising, and/or negotiating? 

• Knowledge of mentorship best practices and experience facilitating groups? 

• Strong group facilitation and public speaking skills, specifically working with youth 

• Ability to work autonomously with drive, enthusiasm, and flexibility to go along with a willingness to work as needed to accomplish job requirements 

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and CRM/Case Management packages required (Salesforce preferred) 

• Flexible to accommodate job responsibilities (including ability to work evenings/weekends as required) 

Work Environment: This position will be based out of an assigned school in the Philadelphia School District. Attendance at the BBBSI headquarters will be required when school is not in session and as needed. Regular hours will be Monday through Friday, aligning with the school hours. 

Ability to commute to school site and BBBSI offices 5 days a week is required.
