Position Title: Key Account Director (KAD)

 

The Key Account Director (KAD), position is responsible for developing and executing strategic account plans within assigned Integrated Delivery Networks (IDNs), large health systems, and organized customers to support appropriate patient utilization aligned with patient need and access. This role is expected to build professional relationships with executive and clinical leadership within targeted accounts based on value-driven engagement. In addition, the KAD collaborates with internal teams to support compliant strategies. This role reports into the Regional Director, Key Accounts.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities*

  • Develop and execute comprehensive strategic account plans for priority IDNs and health systems within compliance and legal guidelines.
  • Build and maintain executive-level relationships with C-Suite, pharmacy leadership, medical directors, and population health stakeholders.
  • Identify opportunities to improve IDN and hospital patient access, formulary positioning, and clinical pathway inclusion.
  • Navigate complex account structures including GPO’s, IDNs, ACOs, specialty pharmacies, and integrated care models.
  • Collaborate with sales, medical affairs, markets access, and patient support services to support planned and compliant execution strategies.
  • Through execution of approved materials, encourage accounts to develop initiatives supporting population health, quality improvement and care optimization.
  • Establish and maintain effective internal communications among Medical, Marketing, Market Access, and Field Sales to implement account specific initiatives.
  • Provide account insights that inform regional and national strategy
  • Track and analyze account performance metrics and adjust strategy accordingly.
  • Analyze local market trends, develop, execute and monitor performance and results to support appropriate patient utilization aligned with patient need and access.
  • Demonstrate accurate and timely completion of all administrative tasks such as sample inventory, call submission & reporting, expense management, vehicle mileage reporting, and related duties as required by Esperion.
  • Ensure compliance with all corporate policies and procedures, completing all required compliance training, and consistently demonstrating behaviors aligned with company values.
  • Follow all Esperion Expense Report guidelines and adhere to allocated territory budget.
  • Maintain vendor credentialing requirements for entities such as VendorMate and RepTrax in order to maintain access to customer locations.

Qualifications (Education & Experience)

  • Bachelor’s degree is required. Preferred degree in sciences (eg. Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Kinesiology, Pre-med, other STEM background) and 5 years of pharmaceutical or relevant sales experience with 3+ years in a key account management or IDN engagement role; or equivalent education and experience.
  • Proven track record of consistent high performance engaging and working with complex health systems and organized customers IDNs, AMCs, or large group practices with a strong understanding of formulary processes, care delivery models, navigating patient journeys and account-based selling strategies.
  • Knowledge of cardiovascular and heart failure marketplace is highly preferred.
  • Experience in collaborating and appropriate mobilizing teams across Sales, Market Access, and Marketing teams while compliantly engaging Medical teams when needed.
  • Must be willing and able to travel up to 30% including overnight stays for territory business and occasional Regional and National Sales Meetings.
  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record that meets Esperion employment standards.
  • Desire to work in a start-up environment or successful experience operating in an entrepreneurial sales model with sole responsibility of product promotion within a large geographic territory.
