Shift Manager

JOB SUMMARY
The Shift Manager, Warehouse Operations is responsible for leading day‑to‑day operational performance across all lines of business within the BSRx Fulfillment Facility, including but not limited to, OHAH, Specialty, DEX, HelioMed, and Shipping & Receiving. Reporting to the Manager, Warehouse Operations, this role provides hands‑on leadership to ensure safe, efficient, and compliant execution of warehouse activities across assigned shifts.
The Shift Manager partners closely with Inventory Managers, the Logistics Manager, Pharmacy partners—including Bayshore Compounding Services—and other cross‑functional stakeholders to maintain operational flow, resolve issues, and support service excellence. The role also contributes to strategic initiatives, capacity planning, workflow optimization, and continuous improvement efforts led by the Manager, Warehouse Operations.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Operational Leadership
· Lead and manage all warehouse activities across assigned shifts, ensuring efficient execution of receiving, shipping, inventory movement, and fulfillment tasks.
· Oversee daily operations across all BSRx business lines, ensuring service levels and productivity targets are met.
· Provide clear direction to shift teams, ensuring alignment with operational priorities and performance expectations.
· Support workflow optimization, resource allocation, and capacity planning in collaboration with the Manager, Warehouse Operations.
· Own end‑to‑end accountability for shift performance across all business lines, including service levels, throughput, backlog recovery, and timely resolution of operational gaps.
· Exercise real‑time decision‑making authority during the shift to re‑prioritize work, reallocate labour, adjust workflows, and redirect resources to protect service, quality, and safety outcomes.
· Monitor and manage shift‑level KPIs (e.g., productivity, errors, backlog, labour efficiency), taking immediate corrective action and escalating material risks with recommended solutions.
· Ensure effective shift‑to‑shift handover by documenting outstanding issues, risks, and priorities, and communicating clearly with incoming shifts and leadership to maintain operational continuity.
· Act as the primary escalation point during the shift for operational, quality, safety, inventory, and service delivery issues, ensuring timely resolution or structured handoff.
· Enforce quality, safety, and compliance standards by exercising stop‑work authority and escalating immediately when risks to product integrity, regulatory compliance, or employee safety are identified.
· Maintain shift‑level accountability for inventory integrity by ensuring accurate system transactions, controlled movements, and adherence to inventory management processes.
· Drive execution and adoption of new SOPs, workflow changes, and system updates on shift, addressing execution gaps and reinforcing compliance through coaching and oversight.
People Management
· Conduct daily shift meetings to communicate priorities, safety reminders, workflow expectations, and performance updates.
· Recruit, train, coach, schedule, and performance‑manage shift employees.
· Implement performance measures, productivity targets, and improvement plans as required.
· Foster a positive, collaborative, and accountable team culture.
· Support employee engagement, development, and succession planning.
· Manage attendance, absenteeism, and short‑notice staffing challenges in real time, implementing contingency coverage and escalating patterns as required.
Process & Quality Management
· Ensure compliance with SOPs, quality standards, and regulatory requirements across all warehouse functions.
· Participate in quality assurance activities, audits, and continuous improvement initiatives.
· Support the development and maintenance of training materials and operational documentation.
· Identify operational risks and escalate or resolve them appropriately.
Cross‑Functional Collaboration
· Partner with Inventory Managers, Logistics Manager, and Pharmacy teams—including Bayshore Compounding Services—to maintain operational flow and resolve issues.
· Collaborate with internal stakeholders to integrate warehouse operations with broader business processes.
· Communicate effectively with internal and external partners to support service delivery and operational excellence.
· Balance and manage competing priorities across multiple business lines during the shift, resolving conflicts and escalating trade‑offs with clear operational recommendations.
Health, Safety & Compliance
· Conduct regular GEMBA walks to identify hazards, observe work practices, and reinforce safety standards.
· Maintain a safe and compliant work environment by enforcing safety procedures and regulatory requirements.
· Participate in proactive Health & Safety activities and report risks or incidents promptly.
· Ensure timely completion of incident reports for any injuries occurring on shift.
· Maintain confidentiality of client, product, and corporate information.
Additional Responsibilities
· Assist in resolving customer service issues related to warehouse operations.
· Participate in ongoing training and professional development.
· Perform other duties as assigned.
Responsibilities Specific to Warehouse and Dex Staff are as follows:
· Willingness to work for extended periods in cold environments (walk-in coolers) while handling and packaging pharmaceutical products.
· Ability to maintain focus, attention to detail, and adherence to GMP or applicable regulatory guidelines, while working in temperature-controlled settings.
· Physical stamina to handle repetitive tasks in cooler conditions, including the use of appropriate PPE.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education & Experience
· Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Logistics, Business, or equivalent experience.
· Minimum five years of warehouse experience in a similar operational environment.
· Minimum three years of experience managing teams in a fast‑paced, high‑volume setting.
· Demonstrated experience meeting tight deadlines and managing shifting priorities.
· Experience working in a regulated warehouse or distribution environment, with exposure to quality, safety, and compliance requirements (e.g. GDP/GMP, Health Canada, or healthcare distribution standards).
· Demonstrated experience overseeing multiple product lines, clients, or business units within a shared warehouse environment and managing competing operational priorities.
· Proven ability to make real time operational decisions during shift execution, including re‑prioritizing work, reallocating labour, and closing workflow gaps to meet service targets.
· Experience managing shift level KPIs, including productivity, service levels, backlog, error rates, and labour efficiency, and implementing corrective actions as needed.
· Experience leading health and safety practices on shift, including hazard identification, incident response, and enforcement of safety protocols.
· Working knowledge of warehouse management systems (WMS), inventory control processes, and operational reporting tools in a high‑volume environment.
· Experience supporting or executing operational change, including rollout of new SOPs, workflows, or systems at the floor level.

Work Environment
· While the position is assigned to either the Day Shift or Afternoon Shift, flexibility is required to work alternate shifts as needed to support a 7‑day operation and business demands.
· Office‑based with regular engagement across operational facilities and stakeholder teams.
· Standard business hours apply, with additional flexibility required during peak periods or urgent operational needs.
· Occasional travel may be required for site visits, stakeholder meetings, or vendor coordination.
· Frequent use of digital platforms, communication tools, and operational systems.
Physical Demands
· Primarily desk-based with intermittent movement across operational areas.
· Regular use of computers, phones, and office equipment.
· Occasional lifting of items up to 50 pounds.
· Accessible workspaces with accommodations available as required.
· Familiarity with Good Manufacturing (GMP) or applicable Regulatory Guidelines, particularly regarding temperature-controlled storage and handling of pharmaceutical products (a must requirement for Warehouse and Dex employees).
· Employees working in warehouse operations are required to wear and properly use all essential or required personal protective equipment (PPE) as outlined by their department leader and in accordance with the employer’s safety requirements. This obligation applies to current PPE requirements and any future revisions necessary to maintain compliance with applicable occupational health and safety legislation and regulations.
