About the Role

NS Pharma is a highly focused, research-driven biopharmaceutical company working in rare diseases. We're exploring the potential of cutting-edge science as a subsidiary of Nippon Shinyaku Co., Ltd. In Japan.

Summary:

The National Account Director (NAD) is an NS Pharma employee who is primarily responsible for managing business transactions and/or relationships with multiple types of accounts across geographies versus being tied to one type of account that is in a set or more regional geography. The NAD represents NS Pharma no matter the location of the account within a national USA geography, but typically not internationally.

The National Account Director (NAD) will report to the Sr. Director, Market Access and will be responsible for managing all segments of the market access business within their assigned accounts. The person will work collaboratively with Sales Leadership, Directors of Patient Access (DPA), Market Access Marketing and Medical. 

The NAD will be responsible for representing NS Pharma in leading strategic relationships with commercial medical benefit plans, PBM’s, State FFS and Managed Medicaid programs, Medicare and Medicare Advantage plans, and other key Medical Management Firms,. They will also interact within a broader Market Access team and ultimately be responsible for implementation of tactical plans developed by the market access team. In addition, the NAD will provide critical competitive intelligence within the market access marketplace to executive leadership. The individual will provide updates, direction, and input to the NS Pharma leadership team and assist in the development of the overall market access strategic plan. The ultimate goal of the position is to minimize NSP product access barriers and promote/implement various programs and services to supplement the DPA’s, field sales force and management efforts. Plan and develop strategies for long term access solutions for pipeline.

Candidates must live on the West Coast of the US.  

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • The NAD will be responsible for all segments of the market access business within their accounts including Payers, Medicaid, National MCO’s, Reimbursement Services and Programs, Federal Marketplace (VA/DOD), Payer Specialty Pharmacies.
  • Gain vertical & horizontal access to various stakeholders within each account through use of tools (e.g. value propositions, budget impact models, PIE presentations, etc) in order to influence favorable medical coverage policies for patients, drive optimal prior authorization/reauthorization processes, achieve pharmacy benefit formulary positioning, support Site of Care (SoC) provider relations initiatives, and manage medical/pharmacy department utilization management scopes. 
  • Partner cross-functionally with Patient Services and internal stakeholders to support case-level payer pull-through and ensure rapid patient access, including proactive engagement with payer accounts to resolve access and coverage barriers
  • Demonstrate a proactive payer engagement approach, maintaining productive relationships with payer decision makers while appropriately advocating for patient access within complex or engagement-sensitive account environments
  • Develop an extensive understanding of the customers' organizational goals in order to assess their needs and develop plans/programs to meet both the needs of the customer and those of NS Pharma.
  • Develop and implement strategy to meet or exceed goals of NS Pharma products for targeted accounts with a heavy focus on brand alignment, finance, and collaborating with key individuals.
  • Identify and diagnose opportunities for value-added programs intended to enhance patient experiences and build trusted customer relationships.
  • Ensure rapid optimal access for all products.
  • Create and maintain Strategic Account Plans.
  • Plan and execute joint business reviews with NSP leadership and National Plan Customers and leadership at least once per year.
  • Maintains relationships with senior managed care medical and pharmacy executives based on an understanding of the customer’s organizational structure and strategic priorities. 
  • Leverages approved resources and internal and external (e.g.. Advocacy and Health Care Policy) subject matter experts to communicate the value of viltolarsen and other approved brands to payers and other organizations evaluating them for coverage or formulary inclusion.
  • Assume a leadership role in determining if other customers, such as ACOs and private equity groups, represents a partnership opportunity. Develop and implement strategy to meet or exceed goals of NS Pharma products for targeted accounts with a heavy focus on brand alignment, finance, and 
  • Ensure rapid optimal access for launch products.
  • Create and maintain Strategic Account Plans.
  • Actively contribute to the effectiveness and success of the internal cross-functional “Local Action Teams”.
  • Extend customer network within targeted plans beyond the pharmacy department to areas crucial for the future strategic vision of healthcare delivery.
  • Maintain a high level of knowledge of the managed care industry and healthcare trends.
  • Maintain a high level of knowledge of relevant and actionable industry trends through familiarity with utilizing Market Access data sources such as IPD, Policy Reporter, MMIT, and other related analytics sources
  • Manage administrative requirements of the job.
  • Understand and apply Compliance Policies and Procedures (CPP)
  • Other projects and tasks as assigned.

 

Qualifications: 

 Minimum Qualifications:
 
 We are looking for professionals with these required skills to achieve our goals:

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • 10+ years of pharmaceutical experience with broad experience across the commercial business in managing strategic relationships across medical and pharmacy benefit payers
  • 5+ years of successful payer account management experience within the specialty rare disease market, particularly with infused orphan products, and cell and gene therapies
  • Valid Driver's License
  • Deep expertise of rare disease/orphan therapy payer medical policy strategy and operations with demonstrated history of favorably influencing medical policy for existing and launch products
  • Demonstrates knowledge in medical policy as well as PBM formulary strategy including contracting strategies and coverage negotiations
  • Rare Disease and Infusion experience is a must 

Preferred Qualifications:
 
 If you have the following characteristics, it would be a plus:

  • MBA and/or advanced clinical/science degree or equivalent
  • 5+ years of successful payer account management experience within the specialty rare disease market, particularly with infused orphan products, and cell and gene therapies
  • Familiarity with Specialty Payer/distribution.
  • Understanding of reimbursement and control mechanisms by payer/PBMs
  • Medicare Part B and Medicaid experience is a plus, experience with a physician administered biologic required.
  • Excellent negotiation and/or major account sales skills
  • Excellent communication (written & verbal), interpersonal influencing skills and prioritization skills
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain relationships with key customers and internal stakeholders
  • Understanding of the account planning process
  • Payer contracting experience
  • Demonstrated analytical ability
  • Strong presentation skills
  • Payer marketing and/or contract management experience
  • Rare Disease and Infusion experience is a must

The annualized target salary range for this role is $200,000 to $215,000 actual salaries will vary and may be above or below this range depending on several factors, including experience, education, training, location, and merit.
