Systems Engineer, Senior

Description
Description:
DEVSECOPS / Model-Based Systems Engineer
CompQsoft is seeking a highly qualified DevSecOps, Developer, and Model-Based Systems Engineer to support advanced Navy and DoD programs requiring secure automation, modern software delivery, and model-based engineering practices. This role emphasizes deep hands-on experience in DevSecOps, CI/CD, Ansible, Terraform, Python, and PowerShell automation, while also supporting system design, integration, and lifecycle engineering activities aligned with mission-critical environments.
Position Overview
The selected candidate will lead and support the design, development, automation, integration, and sustainment of secure systems and digital engineering solutions across complex DoD environments. The ideal candidate combines software development discipline, infrastructure automation expertise, and model-based systems engineering capability to improve deployment speed, cybersecurity posture, traceability, and operational performance.
Requirements
Primary Responsibilities
- Lead the implementation of DevSecOps practices across the system and software development lifecycle, embedding security, automation, compliance, and continuous delivery into engineering workflows.
- Design, build, maintain, and optimize CI/CD pipelines using enterprise tools such as GitLab CI/CD, Jenkins, or equivalent platforms to support repeatable, secure, and efficient deployments.
- Develop and maintain infrastructure-as-code and configuration automation solutions using Terraform and Ansible for provisioning, configuration management, patching, compliance, and environment standardization.
- Create and enhance automation scripts, system utilities, and integration tooling using Python and PowerShell to support deployment orchestration, data transformation, testing, monitoring, and operational efficiency.
- Perform software and systems engineering activities in support of secure application hosting, platform modernization, and automated environment management across development, test, and production baselines.
- Apply model-based systems engineering (MBSE) methods and digital engineering practices to support requirements analysis, architecture development, interface definition, verification traceability, and technical baseline control.
- Collaborate with developers, system engineers, cybersecurity personnel, and infrastructure teams to integrate security controls, automate compliance validation, and remediate vulnerabilities early in the lifecycle.
- Support containerized and hybrid platform deployments, including integration with cloud, on-premises, or tactical infrastructure as required by program objectives.
- Produce and maintain technical documentation, architecture products, automation runbooks, engineering diagrams, and implementation packages aligned with DoD and Navy standards.
- Support test automation, release management, configuration control, and continuous improvement efforts to increase resiliency, auditability, and deployment consistency.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Systems Engineering, Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or related technical discipline; equivalent experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
- Minimum 5+ years of relevant experience in systems engineering, software development, platform engineering, or infrastructure automation, including demonstrated experience in DevSecOps and CI/CD implementation.
- Demonstrated hands-on expertise with Ansible, Terraform, Python, and PowerShell in enterprise or mission-critical environments.
- Strong experience designing and supporting CI/CD pipelines, source control workflows, automated testing, artifact management, and secure release processes.
- Experience implementing DevSecOps practices such as shift-left security, automated scanning, policy enforcement, secrets management, and compliance automation.
- Experience with systems integration, software deployment, and automation within DoD, Navy, or other highly regulated technical environments.
- Familiarity with model-based systems engineering tools, methods, or frameworks used to support requirements decomposition, architecture modeling, and end-to-end traceability.
- Active DoD Secret Clearance, or the ability to obtain and maintain one.
- DoD 8570/8140 compliant certification such as Security+ CE, or equivalent IAT Level II baseline certification.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior support to Navy programs, CANES, ACS, RTSO, or related NAVWAR environments.
- Experience with containers and orchestration technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes.
- Familiarity with RMF, DISA STIG implementation, vulnerability management, and automated compliance reporting.
- Experience with digital engineering environments, SysML-based modeling, requirements management platforms, or MBSE collaboration tools.
- Background in platform engineering, secure software factories, or enterprise developer enablement.
- Advanced cybersecurity, cloud, automation, or network certifications are desirable.
Ideal Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate is a hybrid engineer who can operate effectively across development, automation, security, and systems engineering disciplines. This individual should be equally comfortable writing code in Python and PowerShell, building automation with Ansible and Terraform, implementing DevSecOps and CI/CD pipelines, and contributing to model-based systems engineering efforts that improve technical rigor and delivery outcomes.
Why CompQsoft?
