About the Role

Job Summary

Holy Family Catholic School is seeking an Elementary/Middle School Librarian for the 2026-2027 school year. The Elementary/Middle School Librarian fulfills the mission of the Catholic school by planning, guiding, and evaluating the effectiveness of the school library and media center. The Librarian provides the appropriate learning atmosphere and activities designed to support the school’s instructional program. The Librarian has decision making responsibilities within essential job functions, in keeping with school policies. The position is hired and evaluated by the Principal. 


Ministerial Character

The principal is the visible foundation of the school which the Bishop has entrusted to the principal. The principal makes Christ’s mission present and enduring in the school. In order to fulfill this mission, the principal employs suitable, chosen collaborators. The principal shares with them Christ’s mission and entrusts various responsibilities to them.


Positions employed in the school help to extend the ministry of the principal in particular ways as outlined in the job description. Therefore, the employee in this position is closely connected to and assists the principal in the performance of the principal’s ministry and thereby engages in ministry for the Church.

Requirements

Essential Duties

  • Supports and upholds the philosophy of Catholic education and the mission of the school
  • Acts as a witness to Gospel values by modeling the teachings of the Catholic Church
  • Supports and adheres to the Code of Conduct and policies and procedures of the school and Diocese
  • Maintains confidentiality regarding school matters
  • Plans, develops, and implements a comprehensive K-8 library program aligned with school mission, curriculum standards, and educational best practices
  • Establishes library operating hours and ensures appropriate staffing for all open hours
  • Oversees circulation desk operations and ensures proper coverage during all library operating hours including mornings, recess periods, and after-school times
  • Reviews and approves all charges and fees for lost or damaged materials
  • Plans class lessons for students that are grade appropriate including information literacy, research skills, and digital citizenship for middle school grades. 
  • Collaborates with classroom teachers to integrate library resources and research skills into curriculum units
  • Communicates effectively with students, parents, and other professionals
  • Oversees support staff and volunteers to ensure the effective implementation of the library programs including lessons, circulation of books and materials, and other special programs. 
  • Encourages the use of the library by faculty and students
  • Follows school policies in selecting materials 
  • Organizes and supervises the circulation of library materials
  • Provides library services and materials to meet the needs of teachers and students
  • Establishes library policies and procedures
  • Selects and orders books, periodicals, vertical file material, picture collections, audiovisual hardware and software, appropriate computer programs, materials for professional collection with approval of the principal
  • Maintains library records, statistics, and database
  • Weeds the materials collection
  • Selects the materials for rebinding and repair
  • Supervises shelf reading, takes inventory, and keeps the library in order
  • Provides an opportunity for teacher and student participation in the selection of library materials
  • Ensures volume number and references are in compliance with accreditation standards
  • Demonstrates professionalism in conduct, demeanor, and work habits
  • Maintains a work schedule that maximizes availability to the school, students and staff
  • Collaborates with peers to enhance the work environment and support instructional planning
  • Conferences with parents upon request and responds to messages in a timely manner
  • Demonstrates a willingness to respond to individual learning needs 
  • Prepares publicity, displays, and bulletin board materials
  • Coordinates local book fair and other fundraising activities related to the library

Minimum Qualifications

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Meets the minimum requirements for librarian as set forth by the Diocese and TCCED

Experience:

  • None required

Certifications and Training:

  • Must submit an Ethics and Integrity in Ministry (EIM) Application for Ministry within the first week of employment, participate in an EIM Basic abuse prevention training workshop within 60 days of submitting a complete Application for Ministry, and maintain EIM compliance during the entire term of employment.
  • Must complete Missionary Discipleship for Catholic Schools (Level 1) within two years of the date of hire, completing a minimum of 25 hours each year.


Working Conditions

  • All employees of the school are engaged in ministry and closely tied to the principal in the exercise of the principal’s ministry and obligations to the school.
  • The school is an at-will employer.
  • Working in a fast-paced environment with priorities and plans that may change rapidly.
  • Working on weekends, evenings, and some holidays may be required.
  • Will be exposed to religious ceremonies, conduct, and speech including Christian prayer and Catholic liturgical celebrations. Staff meetings and other functions may open and close with Christian prayer.
  • Will be required to adhere to established dress codes and conduct standards.
  • All buildings and vehicles owned by the school are tobacco free.
  • May be required to use personal or school vehicles to drive to off-site locations.
  • Traveling within and outside the school to meetings and other events may be required, and travel may include overnight lodging.
  • Must maintain a work schedule that maximizes availability to students, parents, colleagues, and administration.
  • Will be required to work in multiple educational settings.


Employee Certification

All employees must adhere to the Catholic Schools Standards of Conduct, the Diocese of Austin EIM policies, and the social, ethical, and moral teachings of the Roman Catholic Church as interpreted by the Bishop of Austin. Texas is an “at-will” employment state. Letters of employment are not contracts, nor do they bind the employer or the employee to a predetermined time or guarantee of employment.
