About the Role
 

The City of Lake Worth Beach invites qualified individuals to apply for the position of Associate Planner.

 

This Full-Time position is Exempt with an annual salary range of $51,570- $69,345. This position is part of the Public Employees Union (PEU) collective bargaining agreement.

Location: Utilities Building located at 1900 2nd Avenue North, Lake Worth, FL 33460.

SUMMARY:

Under limited supervision, conducts research to develop and update elements of the City of Lake Worth Beach Comprehensive Plan and Land Development Regulation, provides assistance in writing reports, analyzes development related data and provides input on neighborhood site and master plans. May operate independently on simple zoning matters and may perform related duties as assigned.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Researches and prepares planning-related reports, documents and agenda for City of Lake Worth Beach officials and other agencies and organizations. 
  • Assists with major and minor planned development amendments that are minor in nature. 
  • Assists in rezoning requests, land use plan amendments and abandonment of easements. 
  • Responds to planning-related inquiries from the general public and other agencies and organizations. 
  • Evaluates amendments for code compliance and prepares maps and graphics presentations for the department. 
  • Performs fieldwork and research for both current planning and comprehensive planning. 
  • Assists in reviewing and making recommendations for building permit applications and occupational licenses. 
  • Collects and analyzes data, conducts site visits as needed and assists planners with special projects as requested. 

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of comprehensive, land use and transportation planning principles. 
  • Basic knowledge of urban design, state planning laws and applicable Federal regulations. 
  • Knowledge of zoning. 
  • Skill in operating computers and blueprints machines. 
  • Skill in research and technical analysis of planning-related information. 
  • Ability to organize and analyze technical information. 
  • Knowledge of site plan review. 
  • Ability to make sound assessments and recommendations based on research. 
  • Ability to communicate effectively, graphically, orally and in writing. 
  • Ability to make effective public presentations. 
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted during the course of work. 

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with a major in Urban or Regional Planning, Public Administration, Architecture, or a closely related field. One (1) year of progressively responsible working experience in a planning environment or any equivalent combination of training and experience.   A valid Florida driver’s license is required.
