About the Role
Description
The Middle School Athletic Director is responsible for the servant leadership of Gilbert Christian Schools in carrying out its mission. As such, the Middle School Athletic Director is responsible to diligently and prayerfully work with students, parents, faculty, and staff to develop and maintain a Christian school that aids in the spiritual, education, and leadership growth of the student body.
Spiritual
- Seek to be a role model in attitude, speech, and actions in a consistent daily walk with Jesus Christ.
- Show by example the importance of Scripture memorization, Bible study, prayer, witnessing, and Christian fellowship.
- Integrate Biblical principles and a Christian worldview into the discipling of student-athletes through athletic participation.
- Lead devotions for coaching staff.
- Be prepared to communicate the school’s religious beliefs to students and others who inquire.
- Be ready to pray with and offer spiritual advice to students, faculty, and staff.
- Follow Matthew 18 principles in addressing issues with students, parents, faculty, and staff.
Leadership
- Administer the middle school athletic program of their assigned campus.
- Provide leadership to the middle school campus coaches.
- Administer the athletic calendar, including games, practices, team activities, and facility availability/conflict. Responsible for verifying upcoming events, including confirmation of officials and opponents. Communicate any necessary information with participants of upcoming events.
- Responsible for processes and personnel involved with successful game day operations.
- Oversee effective communication from the middle school athletic department to parents and participants.
- Responsible for building game schedules for middle school athletic programs, including seeking the feedback of head coaches when applicable.
- Is a spiritual leader of middle school athletics, expecting and upholding a Christian Worldview within all athletic events.
- Assist with representing the school at athletic scheduling meetings as directed by the Cactus Christian Schools League (CCSL).
- Assist with evaluation of short/long-range program needs and opportunities.
- Assist with providing staff leadership. Engenders staff enthusiasm and teamwork. Promotes a safe, efficient, and effective work/learning environment. Advances the change process. Implements strategies and time-frames to accomplish organizational objectives. Helps resolve problems.
- Assist with monitoring safety concerns. Works with stakeholders to manage or eliminate risk factors.
- Pursues growth opportunities that enhance professional performance and advance school goals.
Communications
- Assist with advancing the school’s professional image. Maintains open/effective communications. Uses problem-solving techniques to tactfully address and resolve questions/concerns.
- Upholds the athletic conduct code. Maintains high expectations for behavior and performance. Promotes fair play. Demonstrates respect for rules, officials, and opponents.
- Encourages student involvement in program activities. Helps maintain medical records. Promotes academic success as an important priority for all students.
- Reports suspected child abuse and/or neglect to civil authorities as required by law.

- Program management skills substantiated by training and/or work experience.
- Embodies high ethical standards and integrity. Accepts responsibility for decisions and conduct.
- Ability to establish working relationships with co-workers and function as part of a cohesive team.
- Commitment to keep current with workplace innovations that enhance personal productivity.
- Comprehensive knowledge of interscholastic athletic program regulations and all AIA bylaws.
- Available to work irregular hours and/or a non-traditional schedule in order to assist as needed with sports practices, activities, and games. The Middle School Athletic Director may “flex” time, i.e., come to work later in the day when night events are on the calendar.
Supervisory Responsibility
- Assist with supervision and evaluation of assigned staff.
- Growing in his or her personal relationship with Christ and function as a Christian role model to students.
- Must align with the vision and values of Gilbert Christian Schools and the Statement of Faith.
- Adhere to and encompass the qualities and characteristics required of Gilbert Christian Schools, students, employees, defined by the Employee Handbook.
