Description
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Assistant Controller to join our growing team, a leading provider of oil and gas servicing. The Assistant Controller will be a key player in overseeing critical accounting functions including accounts payable, bank reconciliations, general ledger management, auditing, financial consolidations, and multi-state sales tax compliance. Additionally, the Assistant Controller will take on a leadership role in managing a small accounting team as well as assist the leadership team on ERP implementation of Microsoft Dynamics 365 F&O.
This is a unique opportunity for a detail-oriented accounting professional who enjoys both hands-on accounting and process improvement during a key technology transformation. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in accounting within the oil and gas industry, excellent knowledge of IFRS, and experience managing teams through system integrations.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Assistant Controller is accountable for the following functions and responsibilities:
- Manage monthly closing of financial records in conjunction with the Eastern and Western Hemisphere Controllers.
- Review journal entries and maintain all account reconciliations monthly.
- Prepare detailed journal entries and account analyses as needed.
- Utilize advanced accounting technologies to continue to automate processes, decrease reporting times and provide financial reporting for stakeholders.
- Ensure compliance with IFRS and the establishment of accounting policies and procedures with respect to internal controls and the facilitation of business transactions.
- Collaborate with external auditors to ensure successful audit results and compliance.
- Assist with the compilation of information for the preparation of income tax returns.
- Participate in annual budgeting exercises and provide summary feedback of financial variances to budget.
- Assist in the company’s evaluation of technical accounting matters, including those related to complex transactions, emerging areas, and the adoption of new accounting standards.
- Assist in modernizing the accounting function by creating automated reporting and providing real time reporting to supply chain and stakeholders.
- Respond to frequent requests for information from internal departments, auditors and taxing authorities.
- Research issues and resolve problems as required.
- Participate in strategic financial projects, including the enhancement of reports in our ERP (D365 F&O).
- Perform other functions and responsibilities as assigned.
Requirements
QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
The Assistant Controller must at a minimum, possess the following:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance.
- CPA or CMA highly preferred (or on the path to such certification).
- Manufacturing experience a plus.
- Five to seven years experience with a record of advancement.
- Expert knowledge of Excel preferred, with the ability to work with large amounts of data.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Dynamics 365 is a huge plus.
- Advanced communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Ability to successfully manage multiple tasks and timelines in a fast-paced environment, bearing high levels of responsibility and accountability while keeping the best interests of the business in sight.
- Ability to prioritize workload but be flexible to adjust to changing deadlines.
- Ability to take a “hands on” approach and be willing and able to work at the detailed level.
- Ability to maintain the highest standard of personal conduct in performing all duties.
- Ability to work well with all levels of internal personnel as well as outside vendors and clients.
- Ability to approach problems with a certain degree of creativity and latitude.
- Ability to speak, read, and write the English language fluently.
- Ability to build a working relationship with vendors, customers, and internal personnel based on respect and good rapport.
- Possess excellent organization and time management skills.
- Flexibility to adjust to work routines, as required, to meet the needs of the company and expectations of customers.
- Cognitive skills include the ability to learn, to process thoughts and apply knowledge, to analyze and reason, and to evaluate and make appropriate decisions to achieve business goals and solve problems.
- Ability to travel, 10% or more, including internationally.
