SUMMARY OF FAMILY SUPPORT ASSISTANT: The Family Support Assistant works with Family Support Specialists and Supervisors to provide advocacy, support, childcare, and transportation to children and families served by The Baby Fold’s Healthy Start program. Demonstrates an ability to apply trauma-informed principles and integrates them into daily practice. Communicates effectively and promotes collaborative problem solving by demonstrating care and respect in considering the diverse experiences and perspectives of others. 

Requirements

  

1. Advocacy and Support: Supports Healthy Start workers (Family Support Specialists) and Supervisors to assist families with access to needed services/community resources available to them, such as housing, financial resources, vocational training, employment, childcare, food or income assistance programs. Assists clients with paperwork and applications for assistance programs. Promotes a positive, mutually respectful relationship with assigned clients. Employs agency-approved behavior management techniques with children, as needed. Maintains professional boundaries with clients.

2. Childcare: Provides childcare for clients during program-sponsored supported events and activities, ensuring the children’s safety and well-being. Provides a healthy role model for clients by modeling appropriate parent child interaction and life skills.

3. Transportation: Provides transportation for family members to groups, medical visits, school appointments, and other appointments as needed. 

4. Recordkeeping: Completes required documentation according to agency/grant-funder guidelines for completeness, accuracy, and timeliness.

Outreach/Recruitment: Reaches out to community resources and attends events to promote and inform the public about the Healthy Start program, as assigned   


  • Office Location: 318 Susan Dr., Normal, IL  
  • Work Hours: PART-TIME, hourly/ non-exempt, approximately 20 hours per week, flexible schedule that includes evenings to meet needs of our clients, 37.5+ hrs/wk. 
  • PAY: Hourly/ non-exempt based on experience and education.  Hourly wages start at 16.60 pr hour/ $32,370 annually.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

1. High school diploma or equivalent required. 

2. Bilingual in Spanish strongly preferred.

3. Must be at least 21 years old.

4. Knowledge of and interest in working with children and families. 

5. Knowledge and skills necessary to relate and communicate successfully in a professional capacity to child and adult clients within the program.

6. Willingness and ability to work evening and weekend hours as needed to meet the needs of the agency and the families we serve.  

1. Demonstrated skills in Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel.

2. Must pass necessary background checks.

3. Ability and willingness to travel for job responsibilities, including long distance driving, the ability to enter the homes of families in the service area, a valid driver’s license that has not been revoked or suspended within the past three years, and use of a personal vehicle with adequate insurance.
