Location: Bangalore
Department: Data Engineering

Job Description

BlueOptima has a truly unique collection of vast datasets relating to the changes that software developers make in source code when working in an enterprise software development environment. We are actively leveraging this data to build next-generation, intelligent workflows.

As an Associate Machine Learning Data Engineer focused on Agentic AI, you will work closely with senior engineers and product teams to translate client needs into autonomous, AI-driven solutions. You will assist in developing and testing AI agents capable of reasoning, utilizing tools, and interacting securely with our proprietary datasets. Within this role, defining effective prompts, integrating external APIs, and managing the context windows for these agents will be just as important as evaluating the right underlying foundation models.

You will take an active role in the end-to-end development lifecycle. This involves assisting with initial data exploration, building and refining agentic workflows, implementing monitoring systems for agent behavior and hallucination checks, and helping to troubleshoot issues once a solution is released. You will take ownership of your specific modules and tasks, taking pride in the reliability and accuracy of the AI components you build, while collaborating closely with the broader team to ensure successful system integration.

You will utilize a modern AI stack, gaining hands-on experience with Large Language Models (LLMs), agentic frameworks (such as LangChain, LangGraph, or similar), and standard statistical approaches. With guidance from your team, you will learn to evaluate the trade-offs between deploying complex, multi-agent autonomous systems and identifying when a simpler, deterministic approach is more effective. Finally, you will help maintain and iteratively improve our existing AI agents and algorithms based on performance metrics.

Your team:
The Data Engineering team at BlueOptima accelerates value delivery for internal and external stakeholders by providing production-ready solutions & actionable insights. We cater to all products within BlueOptima, supercharging their success through data-driven innovation.
You will be working hand-in-hand with a diverse team with a variety of skill sets across the fields of Data Analytics,  Machine learning & Artificial intelligence. The majority of the team is currently based out of our Bangalore office.

Responsibilities and tasks:

  • Solve business problems by applying Machine Learning and statistical techniques, working alongside senior engineers to deliver impactful solutions.
  • Identify opportunities and propose ideas to add value across the business using Machine Learning during team planning and brainstorming sessions.
  • Pinpoint bottlenecks in technology and processes within your workflows, collaborating with the team to enhance overall engineering excellence.
  • Explore, clean, and process vast structured and unstructured datasets to build the foundation for robust ML models and analysis.
  • Own the development of specific ML modules and features, coordinating directly with engineering and client-facing teams to transition solutions from exploratory analysis into production.
  • Partner with internal development teams to facilitate the deployment of Machine Learning solutions into active production environments.
  • Collaborate on scoping project requirements, breaking down problems, estimating timelines, and quantifying uncertainty for your technical deliverables.
  • Troubleshoot issues and implement targeted improvements to existing Machine Learning solutions, tracking performance metrics to measure your impact.
  • Apply data-driven approaches to validate assumptions, resolve issues, and track the progress of the code and changes you implement.

Qualifications

What You Need to Succeed at BlueOptima:

  • Minimum Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, or a related quantitative field.
  • 2+ years of experience developing software or data science solutions, including at least 1+ year actively building and deploying LLM-based or Agentic AI solutions.
  • Hands-on experience designing and building with agentic frameworks and orchestration tools (e.g., LangChain, LangGraph, or similar).
  • A solid foundation in Generative AI concepts (LLMs, prompt engineering, context window management, and embeddings) alongside traditional Machine Learning techniques, with the intuition to select the best approach for both structured and unstructured data.
  • Proficiency in Python programming, with the ability to write clean, production-ready code for both complex applications and rapid prototyping.
  • A strong drive for execution, demonstrating the ability to take an autonomous workflow from initial design and prompt iteration all the way through to successful integration within a live product.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, essential for articulating complex AI behaviors to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Strong interpersonal and time management skills, enabling effective collaboration in a fast-paced, high-performance environment.

Good to have (Technical requirements/ Previous experience)

  • Experience with fine-tuning neural nets and explaining how the different layers work, along with designing loss functions, custom metrics, etc.
  • Understanding of word embeddings like word2vec, glove, bert, gpt, encoder-decoder architecture, huggingface library
  • Experience working with managing software vulnerabilities in a coding environment.
  • An understanding of defensive coding practises.
  • Experience with automating tasks to maximise time for more important problems.
  • Experience with PostgreSQL or a similar Rational Database.
  • Experience with data visualisation (via Grafana, Superset, Tableau, or similar) is preferable.
  • Be comfortable explaining very technical concepts to non-expert people.

Your career progression:
In BlueOptima, we strive to strengthen your skills, widen your scope of work, and develop your career fast. For this role, you can expect to move to a Mid-Senior role depending on your performance, skill sets, and interests.
