About The Company
Motivated by a common interest in taking bold and effective climate action, twelve Santa Clara County communities came together in March 2016 to form Silicon Valley Clean Energy (SVCE), a Community Choice Energy agency. SVCE sources clean, competitively-priced electricity on behalf of residents and businesses in the participating jurisdictions of Campbell, Cupertino, Gilroy, Los Altos, Los Altos Hills, Los Gatos, Milpitas, Monte Sereno, Morgan Hill, Mountain View, Saratoga, Sunnyvale and unincorporated Santa Clara County. SVCE sources carbon-free electricity, at a lower cost – allowing our communities to make large-scale reductions in emissions, while saving residents and businesses money at the same time. In addition, SVCE will advance programs for efficiency, demand management and fuel switching – to clean, carbon-free electricity in the place of fossil fuels used in transportation, buildings and infrastructure. SVCE maintains a full-time staff, and is governed by a public Board of Directors comprised of an elected official from each member community. Member communities also designate a board alternate. By law, the agency is funded through program revenues only, not local government budgets. All revenues are returned to the program and passed on to customers in the form of competitive rates, local clean energy projects and customer programs.

Under the Senior Programs Specialist's direction, the Decarbonization Programs Intern will provide support for two of SVCE’s decarbonization programs: Home Rebates and E-Bike Rebates. These programs are designed to offer rebates to residential customers to switch from fossil fuel home appliances or vehicles to zero-carbon electric appliances (e.g., heat pumps) or modes of transportation (e.g., e-bikes). These programs align with SVCE’s mission, which is to reduce dependence on fossil fuels by providing carbon-free, affordable, and reliable electricity and innovative programs for the SVCE community.

Rebate programs require program design, setup, marketing, implementation, and routine monitoring and evaluation. The Home Rebates program was launched in 2022 and is SVCE’s longest running program. It has helped partially or fully electrify more than 3,500 customer homes and paid out more than $10 million in rebates. The E-Bike Rebate program is new and is still in the initial stages of research and development, with a target launch date of Fall 2026.

The Decarbonization Programs Intern position will support database management, rebate processing, and program analysis for the Home Rebates program. The intern will also help with program design and pre-launch support for a new E-Bike Rebate Program. Through the tasks outlined below, the Intern will have an opportunity to gain hands-on experience with implementing and analyzing a well-established customer program and also benefit from using their creativity and outreach skills to support setting up a new program.

Supervision and Support System

This position is based in the Programs Team of the Customer Success Department. This position reports directly to the Senior Programs Specialist, with project-specific supervision from other Programs Team members.

About Silicon Valley Clean Energy

Formed in 2016, Silicon Valley Clean Energy (SVCE) is a Community Choice Energy provider serving approximately 280,000 residential and commercial customer accounts in thirteen Santa Clara County communities. The SVCE mission is to provide customers with electricity generated from renewable and carbon-free sources at competitive rates, and further accelerate decarbonization through deployment of innovative local programs. Key program areas include: building electrification, electric vehicles and charging infrastructure, supporting local policies that advance electrification, and demand management.

SVCE is a joint-powers agency governed by a Board of Directors comprised of an elected official from each of the thirteen SVCE member communities. By providing reliable and responsive electricity service at competitive rates, SVCE maintains a 96+% customer participation rate and a strong financial foundation. Access to clean electricity has helped our communities take a major step in fighting climate change by reducing local emissions. Yet, supplying clean electricity is just one part of the solutions needed to ensure a pollution-free future. It is essential that SVCE continues to proactively engage with our customers and community stakeholders in the electrification journey - helping to inspire, educate, and enable action in transitioning from fossil fuels to clean electricity – in homes, buildings, and transportation.

The SVCE Culture

Achieving SVCE’s ambitious and urgent mission requires a team capable of meeting the tremendous challenges embedded in these goals. SVCE develops and fosters a diverse and talented team that thrives in a dynamic and fast-changing environment. As such, at SVCE we recruit and retain smart, passionate, innovative, and collaborative employees. Company employees contribute, as a team and as individuals, to continuously building and supporting a culture of collaboration and trust. SVCE employees encourage creativity and the free flow of ideas to spur innovation. The workplace environment is adaptable, and technology enabled to drive innovative solutions. SVCE emphasizes focus and prioritization across departments to achieve quality, rather than simply quantity of output. SVCE provides a rewarding workplace experience where productivity can be maintained across a variety of work environments. SVCE provides opportunities for growth, engagement, and support professional and personal development. SVCE offers opportunities that position their people, as well as SVCE, for success.
