Job Description

The salary for this role is £57,117 (inclusive of a Specialist Allowance) . Onsite working is expected for 3 days each week, however, we actively support requests for flexible working. 

This role can be based at any of the following sites: Culham, Oxfordshire.

This role requires employees to complete an online Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS), including The Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) checks for criminal convictions and possibly a search of open source data. 

The Role

Are you looking for an exciting opportunity to make a difference? Join our team and contribute to the future of fusion energy. As Senior Integrated Modeller and Code Developer, you will exploit the JINTRAC core-SOL-divertor coupled transport code and its integrated modules to understand global tokamak experimental results relating to transport and confinement, validate new physics models, and perform cross-code benchmarks.
You will also be contributing to the advancement of core/edge transport codes, and work with code developers to develop/implement advanced tokamak physics and transport models.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Contribute to research carried out through international collaborations and work packages, such as EURO fusion-WPTE/TSVV, ITER, or private fusion companies.
  • Deliver high-quality and impactful research and/or software outputs that are well aligned with UKAEA programme priorities, and disseminating these internally, externally, and in journal publications.
  • Guide students and early career researchers in integrated modelling.

Qualifications

Essential Requirements:

  • PhD (or equivalent experience) in plasma physics.
  • Experience in running plasma integrated simulation codes within different frameworks and on different platforms.
  • Experience developing scientific codes for computational physics, including knowledge of good software engineering practices.
