About the Role

Summary: 

  The Cheese Team Lead is responsible to ensure Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s), Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP’s) and safe work practices are followed by all department employees in the efficient operation and production of quality products throughout the Cheese Department. A minimum of six months is necessary to become proficient in the cheese production operations from Milk Receiving through Bulk Pack, including HTST, vats, mixer, brine tanks, CIP systems, milk receiving, P2, DMC, and Noltec. The Cheese Foreperson position is a working foreperson and must be capable of disassembly, assembling and making minor adjustments to all cheese production equipment. 

Schedule: 

  • Leprino Foods is a 24/7 operating facility; this position is a vacation relief, shifts will vary depending on company needs.  

Pay Rate: 

  • $31.45 per hour 

  • $1 per hour weekend differential for all hours worked between 12:01am Saturday morning through 11:59pm Sunday night  

  • $0.75 shift differential for all evening hours worked between 6pm and 5:59 am any day of the week. 

Responsibilities: 

  • Train employees regarding SOP’s, GMP’s, proper sanitation, safe work practices, good housekeeping, etc. and enforce these policies and practices throughout the department.  

  • Interpret production related data and make production decisions based on the data.  

  • Know all job functions of the Cheese Department positions.  

  • Perform hourly walkthroughs of department to check temperatures, calibrations and maintain accurate records.  

  • Troubleshoot equipment problems and follow up to ensure efficient operation.  

  • Monitor the extraneous program.  

  • Communicate effectively with other operators, department management, and representatives from other departments. 

Requirements: 

  • Must be 18 years of age  

  • Effective verbal and written communication skills  

  • Basic familiarity with all aspects of the cheese department operations including Milk Receiving through Bulk Pack, including HTST, vats, mixer, brine tanks, CIP systems, milk receiving, P2, DMC, and Noltec. 

  • Must be able to work Sunday - Saturday, off-shifts, weekends, holidays, and required overtime to support a 24 hour/7-day operation. 

Preferred skills: 

  • Experience in a manufacturing environment strongly preferred. 

  • Experience in a fast-paced warehouse environment.   

  • Ability to organize, prioritize, and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.  

  • Familiarity or ability to learn SAP, or similar integrated manufacturing system.  

  • Proficient computer knowledge, including Microsoft Office products. 

  • Two years' experience in similar position  

  • Prior experience in a leadership position 

Physical Demands & Environment: 

  • Works in a fast-paced manufacturing setting and is generally moving (e.g., walking, standing, or otherwise being mobile) for most periods of time.  

  • It is frequently required to independently move and handle objects up to 50 pounds.  

  • Must be able to work in hot, humid, and cold areas.   

  • Specific vision may be required for this position, including close vision, distance vision, color and depth perception, and the ability to read computer screens for extended time periods. 

  • Ability to pass a physical abilities test to assess ability to bend, reach, lift, pull, and climb stairs/ladders. 

  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. hourly, climb a ladder, and walk up/downstairs regularly.
