Northwest Eyes is a progressive ophthalmic medical and surgical practice seeking a Patient Educator-Ophthalmic Technician to join our growing team. In this role, you’ll work in a team-oriented clinical environment dedicated to providing outstanding patient care. Responsibilities include accurately documenting and summarizing ocular examinations and treatment recommendations, maintaining efficient patient flow, and assisting Ophthalmologists with a variety of clinical functions such as patient workups, diagnostic testing, and in-office procedures. You may also administer eye medications, apply dressings, and educate patients on post-visit care and treatment plans.

  

A key focus of this position is patient education. This role involves educating patients about premium vision correction options and effectively communicating the value of these services before they consult with the physician. This position plays a key role in promoting advanced eye care solutions by guiding patients through available treatment options, addressing common questions, and supporting informed decision-making.

Duties and Responsibilities:


· Conduct pre-consultation sessions to explain premium vision corrective services such as advanced lenses, laser treatments, and other procedures.

· Answer patient questions and provide detailed, easy-to-understand information to support informed decision-making.

· Use visual aids, brochures, and digital tools to enhance patient understanding of services offered.

· Develop and implement marketing strategies to promote premium services within the practice.

· Identify and engage prospective patients during consultations and interactions.

· Present premium packages in a compelling, professional manner to encourage conversion.

· Meet or exceed sales targets for premium vision services as outlined by the practice.

· Collect and document relevant patient history and pre-consultation data.

· Ensure patients are fully informed and prepared for their consultation with the physician.

· Collaborate with clinical staff to provide a seamless patient experience from education to treatment.

· Provide post-consultation support and information for patients who purchase premium packages.

· Address questions or concerns after the consultation to ensure satisfaction.

· Gather and analyze patient feedback to refine education and sales strategies.


Training and Development:


· Stay updated on advancements in vision correction technologies and treatments.

· Participate in ongoing professional development and training opportunities.

· Assist in onboarding and training new staff on premium services, education, and promotion.


Additional Clinical Responsibilities:


· Accurately summarize and document physician exam findings, including complaints, assessments, and treatment plans.

· Observe patient cues during exams and provide additional education when needed.

· Operate ophthalmic equipment and perform stereopsis testing.

· Assist patients with contact lens insertion/removal.

· Sterilize and maintain ophthalmic instruments and equipment.

· Function as an experienced technician capable of supporting any provider with a full clinical skill set.

· Mentor and assist with training newer technicians.

· Maintain efficient clinic flow and prioritize technician responsibilities.

· Perform other duties as assigned.


Requirements

Required Skills and Abilities:

  • Strong knowledge of vision correction procedures and technologies.
  • Proven ability in patient education and medical sales, preferably in an ophthalmic setting.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to explain complex medical concepts in patient-friendly language.
  • Proficient in EMR systems, Microsoft Office Suite, and G-Suite.


Education:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Certified Ophthalmic Technician (COT) or Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA) preferred.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience in an ophthalmic practice.

Benefits:

Hourly Rate: $24.00 - $35.00
