Teaching Family Homes was brought to Upper Michigan in 1981 to help troubled children and families in the region. Our private, non-profit organization began as a single residential group home serving just six children. Today we provide a wide range of services from our scenic forty acre campus located in Marquette, as well as satellite offices across the Upper Peninsula.
About the Role

Description


 

The Groundkeeper/ Maintenance Worker is responsible for the appearance, maintenance and/or repairs at our residential properties. This position is responsible for maintaining those properties to the highest standards of appearance and cleanliness in the most cost-effective manner possible. As requested and needed, the Groundskeeper/Maintenance Worker also provides support to the facility team servicing our properties. 

Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Ensure all necessary repairs, service, cleaning, and adjustments are completed during routine inspections 
  • Perform required repair or service when work orders are initiated, and communicate work order status to the Director of Facilities 
  • Conduct routine inspections of property grounds and building interiors for damage, unsafe conditions, and general cleanliness 
  • Perform outside grounds maintenance duties such as snow removal, lawn care, and landscaping as required 
  • Perform maintenance including but not limited to, drywall repair, painting, minor plumbing, electrical, and mechanical. Responsibilities also may include, but not be limited to, vacuuming, mopping, shampooing carpet, and windows. 
  • Prepare facilities for licensing, health and fire inspections 

Required Skills: 

  • Knowledgeable of and proficient in the use and care of all hand and power tools, lawn mowers, snowblowers, etc. 
  • Good mechanical maintenance skills 
  • Basic carpentry/construction skills to include painting, sheet rock repair and replacement, vinyl and ceramic flooring repair/replacement 
  • Basic plumbing and electrical skills 
  • Basic understanding of HVAC 
  • Basic grounds maintenance skills 
  • Basic knowledge of fire sprinkler systems and building alarm systems 

Requirements

 

Requirements: 

  • Must have a valid driver's license with good driving record and be insurable 
  • Must maintain adequate automobile insurance 
  • Satisfactory background checks required 
  • Must be reliable and accountable 
  • Ability to be self-sufficient, work efficiently and independently, and stay on task 
  • Two years of work experience in general maintenance and carpentry preferred 
  • Must be proficient at using a smartphone and computer
