About the Role:
Job summary: The Art teacher will work with students across all grades to inspire creativity and artistic expression in students, helping students develop their artistic skills, while integrating biblical principles into their teaching.
Art Teacher Responsibilities
Develop and implement a comprehensive art curriculum that aligns with the school's mission and vision, incorporating a variety of art techniques and styles
Instruct students about different art techniques, materials, and styles, while incorporating biblical principles related to creativity and beauty
Organize and lead hands-on art projects and activities that promote individual expression, imagination, and critical thinking
Work collaboratively with other teachers and staff to integrate art into other areas of the curriculum and school life
Create and maintain an art studio environment that encourages creativity, exploration, and self-expression
Maintain a safe and healthy learning environment, ensuring that all equipment and facilities are clean and in good working condition
Work with small and whole groups of students to provide targeted instruction
Stay up-to-date with current research and best practices in art instruction
Participate in professional development opportunities to enhance knowledge and skills
Prepare information for student report cards
Uphold the mission and values of the school
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Strong organizational and time-management skills
Ensure that the teaching environment is Christian-based, nurturing, wholesome, and loving.
Respect professional ethics that require confidentiality concerning the sharing of information about children, parents, or staff
Know the procedures for dealing with emergency situations in the classroom and school. Conduct required emergency safety drills in coordination with school leadership.
Inform the administration in a timely manner if unable to fulfill any assigned duty.
Deal directly and frankly with the school administration in an earnest effort to resolve differences of opinion when they exist.
Recognize the need for good public relations. Represent the school in a favorable and professional manner to the school's constituency and the general public.
Maintain a clean, attractive, and well-ordered classroom.
Participate in the end-of-year school closing process, such as the inventorying of equipment.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution, preferably in Art Education, Fine Arts, or a related field.
- Valid teaching certification/license for the state in which the position is located.
- Previous experience preferred teaching art to elementary and/or middle school students.
- Strong portfolio showcasing a range of artistic skills and styles.
- Excellent communication and classroom management skills.
- An enthusiastic and articulate advocate for the school’s mission and vision
- Intentionally disciple and support students
- Plan and execute clear, creative, varied lessons
- Differentiate instruction to reflect knowledge of student progress and engagement
- Positive attitude and ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and students while being committed to the mission and values of the school.
- Professionalism in parent communication
- Committed to teaching from a Biblical Worldview
- Passionate about their subject, their students, and their relationship with Jesus Christ
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with digital art tools and software such as Adobe Creative Suite or similar programs.
- Experience organizing student art exhibitions or community art events.
- Professional involvement in the art community through exhibitions, workshops, or memberships.
Physical Requirements:
Able to sit, walk, talk, hear, and use hands on a keyboard.
Able to stoop, kneel, crouch, twist, crawl, reach, and stretch.
May occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 lbs.
Able to set up art materials
Other duties may be assigned as needed.
Schedule and Compensation:
- This is a part-time position, with hours to be determined based on the school schedule. The compensation for this position will be commensurate with experience.
- Tuition discounts for children of school staff (available to both part-time and full-time staff)
- This position is not eligible for employee health benefits.
