Senior Environmental Field Technician
Lantana, FL | Full-Time | Field-Based | Extensive Florida Travel Required
Ready to lead from the field instead of sitting behind a desk? EnviroTrac is seeking an experienced Senior Environmental Field Technician to join our Lantana, Florida team. This role is built for someone who thrives outdoors, enjoys hands-on work, can troubleshoot problems in real time, and has the leadership skills to direct field operations from start to finish.
As a Senior Environmental Field Technician, you will serve as the field lead for environmental investigations, drilling activities, monitoring well installations, soil borings, and environmental sampling programs throughout Florida. This position plays a critical role in project execution and requires someone who is mechanically inclined, safety-focused, and comfortable leading subcontractors and field activities in changing field environments.
This is not a desk position. This role is 99% field-based and designed for someone who prefers active, hands-on work and can confidently lead projects in real-world field conditions.
What You'll Do
Field Leadership & Drilling Oversight
- Serve as the field lead during environmental drilling and investigation activities, overseeing drilling subcontractors during monitoring well installations and soil boring programs
- Lead and direct drilling subcontractors utilizing multiple drilling techniques while ensuring compliance with FDEP Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), project requirements, and site-specific safety protocols
- Complete and oversee soil borings, monitoring well installations, and environmental investigations, including some manual soil borings completed without subcontractor support
- Verify all required permits, utility clearances, Sunshine 811 locates, and site access requirements prior to beginning drilling or field activities
- Direct subcontractors and field personnel to execute site-specific scopes of work while maintaining quality, safety, and project schedules
Environmental Investigation & Sampling
- Oversee and perform collection of soil and groundwater samples for field screening and laboratory analysis
- Ensure proper sample handling, preservation, documentation, and chain-of-custody procedures are followed
- Support environmental investigations, site assessments, remediation projects, and field data collection efforts
- Conduct field screening activities and document field observations and changing site conditions
Documentation & Reporting
- Prepare accurate and complete field notes, boring logs, monitoring well documentation, and field records in accordance with FDEP guidelines and company standards
- Maintain organized documentation and communicate field progress, delays, and observations to Project Managers and technical staff
Safety & Field Operations
- Lead daily safety discussions, tailgate meetings, and Job Safety Analyses (JSAs)
- Work safely around drilling equipment, heavy equipment, active construction activities, and industrial project sites
- Identify and troubleshoot field challenges while maintaining project progress and safety expectations
- Exercise Stop Work Authority when unsafe conditions exist
What We're Looking For
- 5+ years of environmental field experience within environmental consulting, remediation, drilling oversight, or environmental investigations
- Experience overseeing environmental drilling subcontractors and monitoring well installation projects
- Experience with environmental sampling, soil borings, groundwater investigations, and field documentation
- Working knowledge of FDEP procedures and field investigation practices
- Ability to read and execute field work plans and technical scopes of work
- Strong organizational and communication skills
- Must be mechanically inclined and comfortable troubleshooting field equipment, adapting to changing field conditions, and solving problems in real time
- Comfortable leading crews and taking ownership of field execution
- Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record
- Ability and willingness to travel extensively throughout Florida
Preferred Qualifications
- OSHA 40-Hour HAZWOPER with current refreshers
- CPR / First Aid certification
- Experience supporting remediation projects and environmental construction activities
- Experience with groundwater treatment systems, UST investigations, petroleum sites, or FDEP cleanup programs
- CDL or equipment towing experience is a plus
Work Environment & Travel Expectations
This is a 99% outdoor field position requiring work in all weather conditions and environments. Candidates should be comfortable working in Florida heat, humidity, rain, muddy conditions, dense vegetation, uneven terrain, active construction sites, and industrial environments.
Travel is primarily throughout South Florida, but projects may extend across the state including assignments from the Florida Keys through Jacksonville and Tallahassee based on project needs.
Employees should be able to:
- Lift and carry up to 50 pounds
- Walk uneven terrain and active project sites
- Frequently bend, kneel, climb, and work outdoors for extended periods
- Wear required PPE including hard hats, steel-toe boots, safety glasses, respirators, hearing protection, and site-specific safety equipment
