Position Overview
The Phlebotomist will provide specimen collection services for patients receiving care at the Yakama Service Unit. This role is responsible for obtaining high-quality blood specimens, ensuring patient comfort and safety, and supporting laboratory operations in an outpatient healthcare environment.
Responsibilities Include
- Perform venipuncture and capillary blood collection procedures on patients of all ages
- Properly identify patients and verify specimen labeling accuracy
- Collect, process, prepare, and transport specimens according to established protocols
- Maintain specimen integrity to ensure accurate laboratory testing
- Explain collection procedures and help patients feel comfortable during the process
- Follow infection control, safety, and quality assurance procedures
- Maintain collection supplies and assist with inventory management
- Document patient information and specimen collection details within the Electronic Health Record (EHR)
- Coordinate with laboratory personnel, providers, and nursing staff to support efficient patient care
- Maintain confidentiality and comply with HIPAA requirements
- Assist with other laboratory support functions as assigned
What We're Looking For
- High School Diploma or GED required
- Completion of an accredited Phlebotomy Training Program preferred
- Current Phlebotomy Certification preferred (ASCP, NHA, NCCT, AMT, or equivalent)
- Minimum of 1 year of recent phlebotomy experience preferred
- Experience performing venipuncture on adult and pediatric patients
- Strong customer service and patient communication skills
- Experience working with Electronic Health Records (EHR) preferred
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with clinical staff

Requirements
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED required
- Completion of an accredited Phlebotomy Training Program preferred
- Current Phlebotomy Certification required or preferred (ASCP, AMT, NHA, NCCT, or equivalent, depending on contract requirements)
- Active Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required
- Minimum of 2 years of recent phlebotomy experience in a clinical, outpatient, hospital, or laboratory setting
- Demonstrated proficiency in venipuncture and capillary blood collection for patients across all age groups
- Strong specimen collection, handling, labeling, and processing skills
- Experience working in a medical clinic, laboratory, or healthcare setting required
- Experience in rural or underserved healthcare settings preferred
- Prior Indian Health Service (IHS), Tribal Health, or community health center experience preferred
- Proficiency with Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems and laboratory information systems
- Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, and Excel), data entry, and electronic documentation
- Ability to accurately enter, track, and manage patient and specimen information in electronic systems
- Excellent patient communication and customer service skills
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
- Must be a U.S. citizen living and working primarily within the United States
- Must be able to obtain and maintain Federal Security Clearance
- Immunization records required
