Housing Matters partners with individuals and families to create pathways out of their homelessness into permanent housing. As part of the Facilities team and working under the supervision of the Director of Facilities and Lead Custodian, the ERP custodian is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness of the Housing Matters' Encampment Resolution Program location at Live Oak Landing, otherwise known as “The Landing”. This role includes the handling and proper disposal of all wastes, including human biohazardous materials and sharps.
Hours and Benefits:
The ERP Custodian is a full-time, hourly, non-exempt position, eligible for medical, dental, vision, 403b, and our generous PTO plan.

Custodian Starting Wage (Depending on Experience):
$22.50 $23.13 $23.78 $24.45 $25.14 $25.85
Preferred Experience/ Education Requirements:
- High School Diploma or equivalent required.
- Previous experience in house
- Ability to speak English fluently required. Bilingual Spanish-speaking a plus
- Previous cleaning and maintenance experience in a shelter, commercial, clinical, hotel or healthcare environment is preferred.
- Blood Borne Pathogens training certification preferred (training available upon hire and offered by the facility).
Special Requirements:
- Regular standing, walking, sitting, crouching, stooping, and communication are required.
- Requires frequent lifting, reaching, pulling, pushing, lifting objects, and operating equipment.
- Requires the ability to lift 60 lbs.
- Valid California state driver's license and a clean driving record
- Basic computer skills, including ability to answer emails and utilize basic google suite and Microsoft office platforms.
Thorough knowledge of:
- Standard cleaning and safety procedures
- Methods, materials, and techniques used for custodial work
- Operating and caring for custodial supplies and equipment
- Safety and PPE standards
Typical Job Duties:
- Perform specific cleaning and custodial tasks in the general upkeep, sanitation, and cleanliness of the facility.
- Disinfect rooms, furniture, fixtures, equipment, and supplies, using appropriate processes and germicides for cleaning equipment.
- Remove, wash and return linens to beds on a weekly basis.
- Assist Program Manager and site staff as needed to maintain a clean and safe environment.
- Support program manager with room turnover as needed.
- Clean bathrooms, offices, and rooms as needed
- Clean windows, sweep and mop floors
- pick up trash on Housing Matters grounds and surrounding areas
- Operate compactor/ take out trash
- Operate carpet cleaning machine
- Operate power washing machine
- Perform light maintenance repairs as directed by the Director of Facilities
- Maintain adequate cleaning supplies for department/unit use; maintain supply inventory on site.
- Properly clean and store all equipment and supplies after each shift
- Utilize appropriate PPE
- Prepare rooms for meetings and arrange decorations and furniture for facility functions
- Follow all infection control measures.
- Operate an organization-owned vehicle to safely pick up, transport, and drop off supplies between Housing Matters locations
- Supports maintenance with basic facility repairs.
- Other duties assigned.
