Zingerman’s Delicatessen is an Ann Arbor, Michigan institution helmed by managing partners Grace Singleton, Rick Strutz, and Rodger Bowser. The Deli is known for full-flavored, traditionally-made foods—from storied sandwiches and Jewish classics to seasonal side dishes and specialty food staples. As they say, “You really can taste the difference.” Throughout the decades, the Deli has expanded its physical footprint, scope of operations, and staff. It’s grown from a single 1000-square-foot historic storefront to a campus including the Next Door Café. The Deli launched Zingerman’s Catering & Events to bring “the Zingerman’s experience” beyond the Deli’s doors; opened the Greyline, an event space in the heart of downtown; and introduced guided tastings in-store and virtually. This local institution employs a staff of over 200 and has been recognized by the James Beard Foundation Awards as a finalist in the Outstanding Service category. The Deli was founded in 1982 by Paul Saginaw and Ari Weinzweig. Over the years, Zingerman’s—dubbed “the coolest small company in America” by Inc. magazine—has remained rooted in the community while expanding to become a family of independently-owned food and service-focused businesses, known as the Zingerman’s Community of Businesses.

Zingerman’s Deli Sandwich Line Cook

For over 40 years, Zingerman’s Deli has been making world-renowned, full-flavored sandwiches with housemade ingredients. Our menu has earned numerous “Best Of” awards, and we’ve had the honor of serving guests including President Obama, ESPN’s GameDay crew, and Kelly Ripa. We’re proud to serve our community with the finest ingredients—and we work hard to keep up with the high demand of our extensive customer base.



About the Role

Zingerman’s Sandwich Line is a high-volume kitchen with great energy. We make a lot of sandwiches—and we have a lot of fun doing it! Line Cooks are responsible for preparing and cooking sandwiches to order, expediting accurately and efficiently, and keeping stations clean and stocked. We slice our bread to order, serve our meat hot and fresh, and care deeply about teamwork, communication, and consistency.

Shifts are typically 8–9 hours between 9am–8pm. Weekend availability is required.

What We’re Looking For

We’re seeking cooks who bring both skill and responsibility to our team. The right candidate will:

  • Have 1–2 years of professional kitchen experience (high-volume experience preferred)
  • Thrive in a fast-paced, high-energy environment
  • Work with a sense of urgency and attention to detail
  • Take ownership and responsibility for their station and tasks
  • Be seeking a long-term role (2+ years) and opportunities for growth
  • Show up on time, every time, ready to contribute
  • Work calmly under pressure and support teammates with respect


What You’ll Do

  • Prepare food accurately and efficiently following our recipes and standards
  • Keep stations stocked, clean, and running smoothly
  • Communicate clearly with teammates and managers
  • Handle a high volume of work for extended periods while maintaining quality
  • Uphold food safety standards and best practices
  • Contribute ideas and energy to continually improve our kitchen systems and culture


Physical Requirements

  • Able to lift 50 lbs
  • Able to stand for an 8-hour shift
