About the Role

Le Jardin Academy is looking for an Interim Dean of Academics (9-12). This position helps deliver the LJA Academic Program with tenacity, considering both long term curricular and day-to-day concerns of students and faculty. Primary responsibility for the Diploma Program and shared responsibility for the MYP program in grades 9 and 10. Bachelor’s Degree in related field required. IBEN membership and a Master’s degree in Education or current teaching credential is preferred. 3 Years teaching experience, experience with IB DP Programme, and previous leadership experience required. Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States. Position Objective:

Help deliver the LJA Academic Program with tenacity, considering both long term curricular and day-to-day concerns of students and faculty. Primary responsibility for the Diploma Program and shared responsibility for the MYP program in grades 9 and 10. 


Essential Functions- Priority 1: 

Overarching: 

● Work closely and collaboratively with Deans and other members of the Educational Leadership Team to deliver a continuously improving, high-quality academic program aligned with IB philosophy and procedures 

● DP Coordinator duties and responsibilities 

Related to Administration: 

● Keep up to date with and inform all staff and students of developments and new publications in the DP 

● Ensure that all regulations set by the IB concerning the program and all procedures are adhered to properly and that all deadlines are met 

● Ensure that the concept of international-mindedness permeates all subjects 

● Creates agendas for and facilitates DP faculty meetings 

● Support teachers and students involved in the DP Extended Essay 

● Provide CAS Coordinator, teachers and students with guidance concerning CAS 

● Induct new faculty, students, and parents into the program 

● Oversee all program documentation: 

a. Handle all correspondence having to do with DP 

b. Order all DP materials 

c. Assure that all necessary forms and assessment mailings are completed by the faculty and reach IBO in a timely manner 

d. Write reports for IBO, LJA Board, Head of School, etc. as needed 

● Attend Educational Leadership Team meetings 

● Work with MS Dean of Academics to ensure good implementation of Personal Project and a smooth transition from Grade 8 to Grade 9 

● Make recommendations for budget requests to support the implementation of the program 

Related to Curriculum Management: 

● Oversee curriculum review and development for grades 9-12 

● Provide individual teacher support 

● Communicate with professional staff to ensure cooperation in implementing the program 

● Maintain curriculum documentation within ManageBac 

● Facilitate collaborative planning vertically and horizontally 

● Communicate curriculum decisions to relevant parties 

● Attend High School faculty and department meetings 

Essential Functions- Priority 2: 

Related to Professional Development: 

● Ensure that staff members are made aware of professional development opportunities 

● Make recommendations regarding professional development opportunities on and off campus 

● Attend IB DP Coordinator workshops and participate in other IB PD opportunities as necessary 

● Work with Director of Learning to schedule DP teachers for IB workshops and ongoing IB education 

● Work with Director of Learning to keep a record of workshop attendance and school visits to ensure equality of opportunity and identify ongoing needs 

Related to Public Relations

● Create and distribute information to the community through LJA communication systems 

● Meet with potential families regarding program specifics 

● Meet with current families to address questions related to DP and MYP 4&5 

Other Administrative/ Faculty Performance Responsibilities: 

● Assists with creation and monitoring of High School calendar, including exam schedules 

● Assists with High School teacher observation and coaching 

● Assists in coordination of High school assemblies, school exchanges, field trips

● Performs routine administrative activities 

● Assists in the preparation and maintenance of the High School budgets 

● Assists with ensuring student safety in the High School 

● Works with High School Principal on allocation of respective duties 

● Assists with recommendations regarding acceptance and placement of new students 

● Assists with planning and implementing the orientation of teachers 

● Assumes other responsibilities as directed by the Head of School and/or High School Principal 

● Support with MAP testing

Education/Training 

● Bachelor’s Degree in related field 

● IBEN membership and a Master’s degree in Education or current teaching credential is preferred
