Job Description

This role supports the Financial Controller in ensuring Starbucks Australia meets its regulatory, industrial relations, financial, and governance obligations.

It also provides second-line oversight across compliance, enterprise risk management, and data integrity, with a strong focus on payroll compliance, stocktake accuracy, financial controls, and ESG reporting requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

Industrial Relations & Workforce Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with Fair Work Act, and Fast-Food Industry Award
  • Review Payroll classifications, penalty rates and record keeping practices
  • Support Fair Work Ombudsmen reviews, audits, and remediation activities

Compliance, Regulatory Oversight

  • Maintain compliance with Australian financial, legal and statutory obligations
  • Monitor and assess regulatory changes impacting the business
  • Support internal and external audits, as well as regulatory reviews

Cash Handling, Stock Integrity & Financial Data Governance

  • Investigate cash variances and escalate risks or control breaches.
  • Monitor store cash handling compliance and identify irregularities.
  • Enforce cash controls to minimise risk and support audits.
  • Perform periodic cash audits and analyse exception trends.
  • Partner with operations and finance to improve cash accountability.

Stock Data Integrity & BOM Audit

  • Audit BOMs to identify inaccuracies in ingredient mapping and usage.
  • Investigate gaps between POS sales and inventory consumption.
  • Validate stock data across systems for accuracy and consistency.
  • Perform stock variance and reconciliation analysis.
  • Identify and escalate data issues, control gaps, and stock losses.
  • Support root cause analysis and corrective actions.

ESG & Sustainability Reporting

  • Support compliance with evolving ESG reporting requirements
  • Establish governance processes for ESG data collection and assurance readiness

Additional Information

About You:                                                                      

  • Understanding of Fair Work Act and Modern Awards (Fast Food Award highly regarded)
  • Strong skills in Excel / data analysis tools
  • Experience working with payroll systems, ERP systems, or data platforms such as D365
  • Ability to collaborate with systems, finance, and operations teams
  • Familiarity with Australian statutory and financial compliance requirements
  • Experience with inventory management, stocktakes, or retail operations
  • Demonstrated ability to analyse data, identify trends and provide recommendations
  • Experience working with cross-functional teams (HR, Finance, Operations)
  • Ability to translate complex compliance issues into practical actions for leaders
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

Starbucks Australia is proudly Australian owned and operated. We are a small company with large growth plans. We’ve based in Collingwood, with expansive end-of-trip facilities (all shower amenities soaps & towels included), concierge services with dry-cleaning and parcel collection provided, and current building works for our very own Starbucks café on-site. We work on a hybrid model with 3 days in office, 2 from home.
