EHS Manager, ANZ (Based in Wacol, Brisbane)
About the Role
This is an exceptional opportunity to join our Global Operations team as EHS Manager, ANZ for our Brisbane operations.

Tate & Lyle embarked on a Journey to EHS Excellence (J2E); a strategy developed for the next years.
This role will lead to EHS compliance, sustainable culture change, process improvements, change management, and framework implementation at the site.
The role will also lead all incident investigations deemed necessary at the site, drive, train, and coach local operational and EHSQS teams on all Journey-related tasks, including digital tools.
Key Responsibilities
This role provides daily management, co-ordination, and facilitation of all the activities to ensure a safe work environment at the Wacol site.
The role is responsible for site training requirements to be compliant with Local OHS regulations and external 3rd Party Auditing standards while maintaining a skills-based and assessment-based training matrix for the Production, Quality and Office teams.
The role has responsibility for all aspects of the site safety, including facilitating the site OHS Committee activities (monthly meetings & reports) and any Wellbeing programs that benefit the site employees.
- Assuming the role of Element owner/ Co-Element Owner/ EHSQS Committee/ Emergency
- Response team in J2EQE where required.
- Actively support and promote the Journey to EHS Excellence, through demonstrable best practice sharing, support and domain expertise with relevant site element owners and Global J2E Leaders.
- Ensuring EHS compliance with local, global and international standards and legislation.
- Facilitating all aspects of the J2E program across the site with all site-based personnel.
- Review and maintain all aspects of the site Safety & Environmental plans and assist with the maintenance of the site Quality and Food Safety programs.
- Attend and participate in local, regional and global meetings where required. Some may fall outside of normal working hours
- Assist J2E Element owners to progress their individual Elements with sustainable actions.
- Leading, conducting and implementing resolutions to progress Site safety and J2E behaviours.
- Investigate EHS-related issues in a timely manner and resolve with practical and sustainable actions.
- Assist in compiling and managing of the site compliance calendar and the close-out of Items.
- Facilitating and preparing the monthly reports pertaining to the role and any 3rd party learnings which should be shared globally
- Work with purchasing staff to establish safety requirements from external suppliers.
- Provide support to enable and empower our employees and contractors on EHS matters to ensure everyone is engaged in shaping our EHS culture and program of improvement.
- Promote and support Incident/Near Miss reporting and safety-based “STOP Work” decisions
- Deliver comprehensive knowledge and expertise across EHS compliance-related programs, undertaking implementation of sustainable corrective actions ensuring full compliance at the site
- Domain expert for all digital tools utilised in the business, e.g., ESG Benchmark, QR Code, Teams.
- Lead HOP and CI implementation locally for EHS/J2E projects and programs.
- Align personal goals and objectives with the site Strategic Plan.
- Assist with driving cultural improvement of production/warehouse/quality teams in line with J2E objectives and plans using Lean principles - Root Cause Analysis, 5 Whys, Problem Solving.
- Lead role in identifying, controlling and eliminating hazards within factory operations environment.
- Participating in Site Safety Observations
- Support the maintenance of all site certifications - AQIS, Safe food Queensland, FSSC and QAP.
- Knowledge of Life Saving Principles (LSP), Stop Work Authority and Product Protection Principles (PPP)
- Work independently with great time management
- Assist in other areas or perform duties as required.
About You
- BSc degree in Environmental Science, Occupational Safety or Engineering from an accredited University or College or similar field.
- Training or Assessor qualifications desirable
- Minimum five (5) years of working experience in a leading safety-focused role.
- Experience in the food manufacturing industry is highly desirable.
- Experience in LEAN investigation techniques – Root Cause Analysis, Problem Solving.
- Must be persuasive, able to take the initiative, have the adaptability, and communication skills necessary for success in this position – facilitating cultural & behavioural change related to safety and wellbeing.
- Good leadership skills, independent thinking, strong organizational and planning abilities, and excellent analytical and problem-solving skills are essential.
- Knowledge of food legislation, FSSC, HACCP, and ISO preferred.
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Experience in leading continuous improvement initiatives of moderate scope and impact
