About the Role


RGNext employees execute and report on theater and strategic offensive and defensive ballistic missile testing and support space situational awareness operations and experiments, using a wide array of highly sophisticated radar, telemetry and optical sensors to meet the needs of our nation in defending the United States and its interests. 

This overseas position is located on Kwajalein Atoll in the Marshall Islands. 

What You Will Do:

  • Support maintenance and/or repair efforts on both UHF & VHF radar transmitters; directs technicians and helpers to accomplish these maintenance activities.
  • Perform testing and failure analysis of the transmitters down to the component level; design and implement corrective measures to prevent future failures. 
  • Respond to failure events of the antenna/transmitter, 24/7. 
  • Provide design modifications and improvements for transmitters; this includes creating schematics and implementing modifications as well as directing activities of technicians and helpers to properly install these design modifications.
  • Maintain tracking and failure data for high power RF tubes; issues periodic memos indicating spare issues and status. 
  • Determine transmitter spares requirements and orders parts as required; finds replacement candidates for obsolete parts and implements required design changes. 
  • Provide technical support to systems engineering and management for all transmitter technical issues.
  • Modify and maintain documentation for transmitters including but not limited to equipment schematics and manuals; verifies drafting changes to drawings and manuals meet engineering requirements.
  • Support the safety program to ensure a safe workplace for all transmitter personnel.
  • Write weekly reports conveying transmitter developments and issues/problems to management.
  • Provide email correspondence with tube vendors and other suppliers as required.
  • Work with all engineering disciplines and management to meet mission requirements.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications You Must Have:

  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering or related STEM engineering discipline.
  • Two or more years’ experience in the electrical engineering field preferably working radar transmitter or RF experience. 
  • Strong understanding of electrical principles. 
  • Strong circuit troubleshooting skills and the ability to read and interpret schematics. 
  • Comfortable working with high voltage (up to 50 kV).
  • Familiarity with floating ground systems. 
  • Familiarity with radar receiver systems. 
  • General knowledge of Analog/RF components such as vacuum tube amplifiers, RF couplers, hybrids etc. 
  • Familiarity with and ability to operate standard electronic test equipment including spectrum analyzers and network analyzers. 
  • Solid knowledge of the fundamentals of radar transmitter architecture.
  • Knowledgeable on the use and operation of transmitter amplifiers to include: Klystrons, Travelling Wave Tubes (TWT's), Vacuum Tubes and transistor devices. 
  • High degree of demonstrated ability to effectively use high power RF measurement techniques and perform high voltage troubleshooting. 
  • Design familiarity with switchgears, analog and digital control hardware and RFI shielding practices.
  • Ability to work independently with limited guidance.
  • Ability to assist in development of junior engineers and technicians.
  • Ability to lead various disciplines in the completion of projects that may sometimes be technically complex.
  • Full understanding of the unique safety issues associated with working at high power and high voltage.
  • The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued security clearance is required. U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.
  • The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. passport.
  • Must be able to relocate to the United States Army Garrison, Kwajalein Atoll, Marshall Islands.
  • Must be able to lift/carry/push/pull up to 45 lbs. independently.
  • The flexibility to work occasional non-duty hours or on weekends to support specific project or mission requirements.

Qualifications We Prefer:

  • High power RF measurement and high voltage troubleshooting.
  • Field installation and testing, calibration, troubleshooting and acceptance testing.
  • Design and development engineering.
  • Project management.
  • Mission Operations and Weapons test range systems experience.
  • Familiarity with Allen-Bradley hardware and software.
  • Master’s Degree in Engineering or related discipline.
  • Experience with high power vacuum tube operation.
