Function/Duties of Position
The APP/Inpatient Nocturnist delivers care aligned with a defined scope of practice Pediatric Hematology-Oncology, with work expectations operationalized through departmental workflows, productivity standards, and performance expectations consistent with the CBA and institutional policies.
The APP assures the safe, efficient, high quality and customer oriented management of patient care to the pediatric hematology/oncology population, including but not limited to completing a comprehensive assessment of the patient’s status; developing, monitoring and revising, as appropriate, an evidence-based treatment plan that addresses diagnoses, patterns of disease, risk factors, and treatment alternatives; treat many common acute and chronic health problems; interpret diagnostic tests; prescribe and manage medications and other therapies; provide health teaching with an emphasis on anticipatory guidance and risks of complications of therapy.
Clinical APP faculty have an expectation of advancement and activities consistent with faculty pursuits standard work. Faculty Pursuit activities will be driven by individual APP interests. APPs may also collaborate with the Division Head, Medical Director, Lead APPs, Nurse Manager, and other colleagues to develop plans that may also further division goals or the clinical or research missions (eg, quality improvement projects, clinical research, etc)
All APPs are expected to support the clinical, education, and research mission of OHSU through routine clinical care that includes working with students, trainees, and patients participating in research, consistent with their role, scope of practice, and applicable contract and institutional policies
This role is structured to meet contract-defined work expectations of 143 14.5-hour shifts per year--inclusive of overnight coverage on weekdays and weekends, PTO, Holidays--aligned with the clinical coverage model and patient care needs of the service.
The APP/Inpatient Nocturnist will participate in departmental scheduling processes, including weekends and holidays, with scheduling practices aligned to contract provisions, equitable distribution of coverage, and maintenance of safe, consistent clinical operations.
Required Qualifications
Education:
- Successful completion of a Master’s Degree in Nursing or Master of Science in Nursing in a recognized APRN specialty (Certified Nurse Midwife, Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist, or Nurse Practitioner),
- OR -
- Successful completion of a Master’s Degree in Physician Assistant/Associate Studies from an accredited program.
Registrations, Certifications and/or Licenses:
- Current RN and APRN licensure with the Oregon Board of Nursing.
- Current national certification in the area of specialization.
- Current BLS, ACLS or PALS Certification as indicated for the position
- DEA Certification.
- OR -
- Current PA licensure with the Oregon Medical Board.
- Current NCCPA Certification.
- Current BLS, ACLS or PALS Certification.
- DEA Certification.
Experience:
Experience as an APP in complex medical or pediatric subspecialty care.
Skills and Abilities:
- Ability to manage a heavy workload with multiple priorities and inflexible deadlines
- Ability to communicate effectively, verbally, and in writing
- Proficient in the use of computing hardware and software, including personal computing equipment, electronic medical record, word processing, and spreadsheet software
- Regular and consistent attendance at work
