About The Company
In September 1917 Newman Elementary School was established as the parish school for St. Austin Catholic Parish. Three Dominican Sisters of Houston were given its direction. When an eighth grade was added for the 1941-1942 school year, the school became a complete elementary school, and the name was changed to St. Austin Catholic School. Today, with one homeroom per grade, the School fosters a strong sense of community. Families from all corners of the Austin metropolitan area, from over 40 different zip codes, make up our small community. This diversity of the student body is a rich part of the St. Austin School tradition. St. Austin Catholic School is a unique place. Nestled in downtown Austin between the Texas State Capitol and the University of Texas, we are privileged to experience a contemporary urban environment. The School has seen many changes through its history, but these things remain unchanged: a curriculum focused on academic strength; a structured yet nurturing environment; a small, active and involved community; and the heritage and traditions of our Catholic faith as the keystone of the St. Austin experience. In turn, the faculty values the uniqueness of each child and the gifts that each child brings to our community. We believe that a solid academic experience based in faith gives children the tools needed to succeed in life. Since 1917 we have followed the Latin adage “Non Scholae, Sed Vitae” (Not for school, but for life). MISSION STATEMENT: St. Austin Catholic School prepares students to be Christ centered, academically strong, moral community leaders. CORE VALUES • Reflect the tradition, ideals, faith and hope of the Roman Catholic Church • Support an inclusive, family-oriented community • Treat others with dignity, respect and integrity • Encourage accountability, instill discipline and honor diversity • Foster compassion, self-respect and social responsibility • Provide affordable, quality Catholic education
