St John of God Health Care (SJGHC) is one of the largest private providers of health care services in Australia, employing more than 16,000 employees (caregivers). We operate 26 hospitals and services comprising more than 3,300 hospital beds, including home nursing, disability services and social outreach programs.

Join the new St John of God Midland Private Hospital, opening in August, as an Environmental Services Assistant and play a vital role in maintaining a safe, clean and welcoming hospital environment. In this position, you will be responsible for cleaning and maintaining wards, units and hospital areas in accordance with Infection Control and Occupational Safety and Health standards. Working under the direction and supervision of the Manager Support Services and Team Leader Environmental Services, you will contribute to a high standard of hygiene and safety that supports patient care, staff wellbeing and overall hospital operations.

About the new Midland Private Hospital

  • A brand-new purpose-built state-of-the-art facility, currently under construction, located just 300 metres from the St John of God Midland Public and Private Hospitals Campus.
  • A comprehensive range of medical and surgical services, with interventional cardiology being offered for the first time in the region
  • The hospital will feature:
    • 96 overnight inpatient beds, including a six-bed critical care/high dependency unit.
    • 33-bed/chair short stay and day procedure unit
    • Eight operating theatres.
    • A cardiac/vascular catheter laboratory

The Role

  • Adheres to all Hospital Policies and Procedures including Confidentiality, Occupational Safety and Health, Infection Control, and Housekeeping Protocols.
  • Carries out all duties under the direction and supervision of the Manager Support Services and Team Leader Environmental Services (or After Hours Clinical Nurse Manager).
  • Works in all areas within Environmental Services across the hospital as requested by Team Leader Environmental Services /After Hours Clinical Nurse Manager.
  • Performs all duties in accordance with relevant Duty Statements
  • Maintains a safe, clean environment using only authorised cleaning products and adhering to the Infection Control cleaning schedule for each ward/unit/ hospital area.
  • Remove soiled linen and rubbish from designated areas in accordance with cleaning protocols and procedures. 
  • Maintains the nonmedical consumable and cleaning imprest supplies.
  • Reports all Ward/Unit maintenance issues to the Manager Support Services or Team Leader Environmental Services.
  • Reports all periodic cleaning requirements i.e. (carpets, windows and screens) to the Team Leader Environmental Services.
  • Maintains effective communication lines and teamwork/collaboration within area of responsibility and the Hospital generally.
  • Promotes a customer focused organisation.
  • Carries phone/pager whenever required and responds to urgent requests as requested.
  • Carries out timely locking and unlocking procedures as required by the Hospital.
  • Carries out any other appropriate duty as required by the Manager Support Services/ Team Leader Environmental Services.
  • Participates in Environmental Services Meetings and Environmental Services team initiatives as required by the Manager Support Services
  • Responsible for abiding by and implementing workplace safety and security processes in the course of undertaking the role.
  • Identifies risks and hazards and reports promptly to ensure that safety measures are maintained.
  • High level of personal presentation and adhering to wearing uniform provided as per uniform policy.
  • All other reasonable duties as directed by Manager/Supervisor.

We are seeking a motivated individuals who can work effectively within a team while managing time and prioritising workloads to meet daily requirements. The successful candidates will demonstrate strong communication and interpersonal skills, a high level of cleaning ability, and a customer-focused approach. Basic knowledge of chemical usage is required, along with an understanding of manual handling, occupational safety and health practices, infection control and housekeeping protocols, and the safe use of cleaning equipment to maintain a clean and safe hospital environment.

  • Salary: $61,043 - $63,223 pro rata, plus 12% superannuation
