Join St John of God Midland Private Hospital, opening in August, as a Ward Host within our Catering Services team. In this role, you will assist with food preparation, equipment handling, and the efficient delivery and service of meals to patients, caregivers and visitors. You will support patients with menu selections, liaise closely with the kitchen to coordinate meal requests, and ensure meals are delivered in a timely and caring manner. Additionally, you will be responsible for collecting meal trolleys and maintaining a clean and organised environment, contributing to a positive patient experience through attentive, courteous and responsive service.
About the new Midland Private Hospital
- A brand-new purpose-built state-of-the-art facility, currently under construction, located just 300 metres from the St John of God Midland Public and Private Hospitals Campus.
- A comprehensive range of medical and surgical services, with interventional cardiology being offered for the first time in the region
- The hospital will feature:
- 96 overnight inpatient beds, including a six-bed critical care/high dependency unit.
- 33-bed/chair short stay and day procedure unit
- Eight operating theatres.
- A cardiac/vascular catheter laboratory
The Job
- Provide excellent compassionate service paying particular attention to the needs of the patient.
- Identify customers’ needs, clarify information, and provide solutions and/or alternatives.
- Deliver patient meals and beverages in an efficient and timely manner.
- Carry out meal delivery in accordance with hospital procedures, ensuring meal are delivered to the right patient every time by using 3 points of identification, this includes checking the patient’s Name, Date of Birth and address or Medical Record Number on their Patient ID band against the meal order tray slip.
- Complete verification checks with the patient, ensuring all menu items have been delivered and that allergies have been declared by the patient and are not present in the meal delivery.
- Collection of patient meal trays and trolleys from the ward.
- Follow instructions and guidance from Nurse Unit Manager where appropriate when working in ward areas.
- Identify and escalate any patient concerns, comments or priority issues with the Head Chef/ Chef on Duty (both positive and negative).
- Uniform worn is in accordance with presentation guidelines outlined.
- Provide kitchen support as required including dishwashing duties, cleaning and sanitising crockery, cutlery, utensils and meal delivery equipment.
- Maintain the cleanliness and hygiene of kitchen and service areas in accordance with food safety and infection control standards.
- Ensure all kitchen equipment is cleaned, stored, and operated safely.
- Follow correct procedures for handling, storing, and disposing of food and cleaning chemicals.
- Provide suggestions of process and feedback from patients to the Manager, that would improve the meal dining experience.
- Actively seeks opportunities for further professional development.
- All other reasonable duties as directed by Manager/Supervisor.
We are seeking a customer-focused individuals with a basic knowledge of kitchen hygiene and a nationally accredited Basic Food Safety certificate. The successful candidates will demonstrate a high standard of personal presentation and punctuality, along with strong verbal communication and listening skills. A friendly, people-oriented approach and the ability to engage positively with patients, visitors and colleagues are essential to supporting a high-quality service experience.

About the new Midland Private Hospital

We can offer you
- Salary: $62,257 - $65,206 pro rata, plus 12% superannuation
- Permanent full time and part time positions
