About The Company
UGL Regional Linx was established in 2021, after parent company, UGL Limited was selected to deliver operations and maintenance of rail infrastructure for the Country Regional Network (CRN). This network ensures the safe movement of people and goods throughout the regions of NSW, and links Sydney with many important regional centres. UGL Regional Linx commenced operations on January 30 2022 and works on behalf of the client, Transport for NSW (TfNSW) and will be responsible for managing an important network of assets. As part of its operation, UGL Regional Linx’s scope of work includes: • Network operations • Rail infrastructure maintenance and implementation of a new train control system - UGL’s proprietary system, Sigview. • Asset and property management, and • Safety, access, performance, and environmental management. UGL Regional Linx has made a strong commitment to local and indigenous employment, further strengthening the organisation’s commitment to regional NSW. As part of its operations, UGL Regional Linx established its head office and Network Control Centre in the heart of the Central West, Orange, NSW. The CRN network includes: • 2,386 route kilometres of operational passenger and freight rail lines, including 996 km of branch line track used predominantly for haulage of grain, with lower mass and speed limits than other parts of the network • 3,139 route kilometres of non-operational lines • 27,000 hectares of land and infrastructure • 1,312 level crossings (300 active) • 1,200 property assets (including 356 heritage sites) • 600 rail under bridges and 384 road overbridges The CRN is a crucial piece of infrastructure to regional NSW and UGL Regional Linx is committed to ensure that it delivers for all customers, from rail passengers to farmers and industry.
About the Role

UGL Defence has been awarded the Asset Management, Operations and Maintenance contract for the Defence Fuels Network (DFN)—a critical national infrastructure supporting Australia’s Defence capability.

We are seeking an experienced Project Engineer to join our team at supporting Australia’s Defence fuel infrastructure. This is a unique opportunity to work within a high-profile Defence environment, contributing directly to the operational readiness and national security of Australia.

About the role

Based in our North Sydney office with occasional travel required, the Project Engineer works closely with discipline engineers, contractors, suppliers, and key stakeholders to ensure project objectives are achieved, with a strong focus on compliance, reporting, and overall project performance.

Key responsibilities

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with DFN Engineering, Projects, Operations, Maintenance, and Supply Chain teams

  • Participate in project review meetings, contributing to scope definition, constructability reviews, cost and schedule development, and delivery strategies

  • Liaise with subcontractors and suppliers to coordinate labour, equipment, and materials required for project execution

  • Work closely with UGL Managers, Superintendents, and Supervisors to ensure effective resource planning, material availability, and delivery execution

  • Demonstrate strong leadership in managing internal and external relationships to drive successful project delivery

  • Develop and manage project scope, ensuring changes are controlled and documented in accordance with approved variation processes

  • Work with Supply Chain to develop and implement procurement strategies, including subcontractor and supplier engagement

  • Oversee contractor and supplier performance to ensure compliance with contractual, technical, and safety requirements

  • Cost Management: Prepare cost estimates, manage budgets, track expenditures, and report on cost performance

  • Schedule Management: Develop and maintain project schedules in collaboration with schedulers, providing regular updates and progress reporting

  • Reporting: Prepare and deliver accurate, timely, and insightful project reports covering cost, schedule, risk, and performance metrics

  • Risk Management: Identify, assess, and manage project risks and opportunities to minimise impact and support delivery outcomes

  • Information Management: Ensure project data and documentation are managed within established systems and comply with governance requirements

About You

  • Tertiary qualification in Engineering or equivalent

  • Diplomas or certifications in Project Management are advantageous

  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a similar role, preferably within LNG and Oil & Gas facilities, Petrochemicals; experience in other heavy industries (e.g., mining) will also be considered

  • Proven track record in delivering multiple projects or a portfolio of works on time and within budget

  • Strong capability in collaborating with site engineering teams to develop project scopes, plans, and cost estimates

  • Demonstrated experience in managing and delivering multiple multi-disciplinary projects concurrently

  • Sound understanding and practical application of project controls principles, including Earned Value Management (EVM), S-curves, cost-to-complete, burn rates, and forecasting

  • To meet Defence clearance requirements, applicants must hold Australian Citizenship.
