Job Description

The Boaters Inn is one of Kingston's most popular riverside destinations, sitting in the heart of Canbury Gardens on the banks of the Thames. We're deeply involved in the local community, hosting and supporting a variety of events throughout the summer, making us a true hub for locals and visitors alike.

With two kitchens, three dining areas, a beautiful seasonal menu, and consistently high footfall, this is an exciting opportunity to join a busy operation where you'll play a key role in delivering exceptional food and guest experiences.

Qualifications

As Sous Chef, you'll work closely with the Head Chef to drive standards, support the team, and ensure smooth day-to-day kitchen operations You'll:

  • Lead by example during busy services, maintaining high standards under pressure
  • Support the Head Chef in managing the kitchen operation
  • Ensure food quality, consistency, and presentation are always on point
  • Maintain excellent food hygiene, health & safety, and cleanliness standards
  • Support stock control, ordering, and GP management
  • Coach, motivate, and develop the wider kitchen team
  • Help create an environment where the team can thrive and grow

 

What We're Looking For

We're searching for a strong, hands-on Sous Chef who brings energy, initiative, and a positive attitude to the kitchen.

You'll ideally have:

  • 1-2 years' experience in a Sous Chef role or a strong Junior Sous Chef ready for the next step
  • Experience working in a high-volume, fresh food environment
  • Excellent organisational skills and the ability to think quickly under pressure
  • A proactive approach to problem-solving and troubleshooting
  • Strong communication and leadership skills
  • A passion for developing others and building a positive team culture
  • Good understanding of stock management, GPs, food safety, and compliance

Most importantly, you'll fit into our ambitious and energetic kitchen team. We're a relatively young team looking for someone with personality, drive, and the confidence to help lead from the front.
