GENERAL FUNCTIONS

Under the guidance of the Facility Services Director, this position is responsible for ensuring that our facility meets the highest standards of cleanliness and sanitation. This includes overseeing daily cleaning and maintenance operations, supervising a team of custodial staff, coordinating cleaning schedules, and ensuring the proper maintenance of cleaning equipment and supplies. This person develops and implements standardized cleaning methods, regularly inspects the facility, and works closely with staff to coordinate specific cleaning tasks. This position works independently under general direction and is expected to determine how to accomplish tasks. Typical work schedule for this position will be 40 hours per week, Monday - Friday, 2:00PM - 10:00PM, with some flexibility, and occasional weekends if needed.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  1. Supervise department employees and volunteers. Duties include: staff selection, training, scheduling, directing, and performance evaluation/rewards/discipline.
  2. Plan and schedule cleaning of the facility, including routine and special event-related or seasonal tasks.
  3. Review work orders posted on software system (Facility Dude) to determine and ensure completion of Housekeeping tasks.
  4. Develop and periodically review an effective, efficient department structure. This includes operational procedures and guidelines.
  5. Observe, monitor, and evaluate cleaning operations and results on an on-going basis both formally/informally and with input from facility guests and staff. This includes monitoring quality, and effectively responding to concerns, suggestions, and complaints.
  6. Provide input to the purchase of maintenance equipment and supplies.
  7. Provide input to the Facilities Department budget, suggesting and supporting expense and/or staffing modifications as required to meet goals and YMCA Mission.
  8. Promote and ensure custodial staff’s compliance with safety standards, including but not limited to; OSHA compliance and Hazardous Material handling.
  9. Develop and appropriately revise departmental documentation.
  10. Ensure all departmental employees receive required position orientation, annual OSHA training, ongoing training, and the opportunity to attend organization and department meetings.
  11. Plan and conduct periodic staff meetings and trainings.
  12. Develop, monitor and revise short and long-range training plans for departmental staff, with emphasis on safety and increasing staff retention.
  13. Maintain timely and accurate communication with departmental staff and colleagues.
  14. Assist in the development and maintenance of departmental and procedural documentation.
  15. Demonstrate and communicate YMCA Mission, purpose, goals, policies and standards to staff, volunteers, parents and program participants.
  16. Attend and actively participate in specified organizational meetings and communicate relevant information to department staff.
  17. Perform other duties as assigned by the Facilities Director or CEO.



Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Training:

  • CPR/First Aid certification within 60 days of hire.
  • Other trainings as required by the YMCA.

Technical Knowledge and Skills:

  • Proficiency in basic computer functions, with the ability to learn specific software systems.
  • Supervisory experience and skills required.
  • Experience with recruitment and management of staff and volunteers.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

The physical demands described are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.


Position requires employee to observe and evaluate the facility, grounds, and camp by: sight, sound and ability to easily move through all facility and camp areas. May be required to: climb stairs/ladders, bend, stoop, kneel, twist, use hand and power tools, reach, sit, stand for an extended period of time, walk, lift/carry/move up to 75 pounds, talk, hear, have visual acuity, and operate motorized and mechanical equipment/vehicles. Exposure to noise, dust, fumes, and hazards is possible, and use of cleaning/other chemicals is required. The work is performed both indoors and outdoors and may involve exposure to weather conditions prevalent at the time.
