About the Role

National 4-H Council is seeking an innovative and strategic Director, Insights & Engagement to lead enterprise-wide analytics, audience intelligence, and engagement strategies that strengthen connections with donors, alumni, volunteers, and supporters while advancing 4-H's mission and the Beyond Ready initiative.

As the Director, Insights & Engagement, you will serve as a strategic leader responsible for driving data-informed decision making and advancing constituent engagement across the organization. You will lead the development of integrated insights and analytics strategies that leverage audience intelligence, behavioral trends, performance metrics, and predictive modeling to inform fundraising, marketing, and engagement efforts. Partnering closely with executive leadership and cross-functional teams, you will translate complex data into actionable recommendations, oversee engagement measurement frameworks, and champion innovative approaches to personalization and audience growth. In addition, you will lead and develop a high-performing team of analysts, researchers, and engagement specialists while fostering a culture of curiosity, continuous improvement, and strategic impact.

Position Summary

The Director, Insights & Engagement is a strategic leader responsible for driving data-informed decision making and deepening stakeholder engagement across the organization. This role leads the development and implementation of integrated strategies that leverage audience insights, performance analytics, and engagement trends to inform marketing, development, and platforms efforts. This position oversees a cross-functional serving team focused on research, analytics, email engagement, and optimization.


Essential Functions

Insights & Analytics Leadership

  • Develop, implement, and lead a Council-wide Insights & Analytics operational plan informed by data-driven insights, with a strong focus on enhancing engagement.
  • Create a strategic insights roadmap aligned with organizational goals,leveragingboth qualitative and quantitative methods (e.g., surveys, data analysis,donorand consumer behavior).
  • Translate complex research findings into actionable insights, personas, and trend analyses to guide donor, marketing, and engagement strategies.
  • Design and oversee frameworks for measuring effectiveness of engagement strategies across channels (email, digital, social, etc.).
  • Serve as a trusted strategic advisor to Leadership on prospect strategy, pipeline health, and fundraisingopportunity.
  • Maintain a comprehensiveprospectresearch strategy aligned with campaign goals and long‑term institutional priorities.
  • Analyze constituent behavior, segmentation, and journey mapping tooptimizemarketing strategies.
  • Collaborate with leadership to ensure analytics align with businessobjectives.
  • Additional responsibilities as needed.


Email Marketing & Engagement Oversight

  • Define and lead a comprehensive engagement and insights strategy that advances organizational goals across alumni, donors, volunteers, and key stakeholder audiences.
  • Translate organizational strategy into data‑driven engagement frameworks, ensuring consistent, personalized, and high‑impact constituent experiences.
  • Serve as a strategic advisor to senior leadership,providingactionable insights on engagement trends, opportunities, and risks.
  • Own the organization’s marketing intelligence function, integrating data from CRM, engagement platforms, analytics tools, and third‑party sources.
  • Develop and monitor executive‑level dashboards and KPIs related to engagement, retention, conversion, and lifetime value.
  • Lead advanced segmentation, behavioral analysis, and predictive insights to inform planning, personalization, and resource allocation.
  • Maintain the integrity and accessibility of marketing data.
  • Ensure compliance with data privacy regulations and best practices.
  • Evaluate tools and protocols to ensureaccurateand reliable data reporting.


Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Serve as a strategic thought partner to the development, marketing, and customer experience teams to integrate insights & analytics into business strategies and workflows.
  • Partner with IT and data governance teams to ensuredata quality,integrationintegrity, privacy compliance, and scalability.
  • Present insights and engagement outcomes to executive leadership through compelling data storytelling.
  • Lead the relationship with the email marketing platform vendor, managing procurement, contracts, and performance while driving continuous optimization to enhance campaign effectiveness and audience engagement.
  • Lead theresponsible adoption of AI within theresearch and analytics space, including use cases such as predictive analytics, personalization, process automation, and decision support, while ensuring compliance, governance, and ethical standards.


Team Leadership & Development

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing team of analysts, researchers, and engagement specialists.
  • Implement best practices, processes, and tools to scale insight-gathering and engagement impact.
  • Foster a culture of curiosity, innovation, and continuous improvement.
  • Establish clear governance, standards, and operating rhythms for insights and engagement work.
  • Provide staff with guidance onsystemsfunctionality and best practices.


Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Analytics, Data Science, Marketing, Market Research, or related field, or any combination of relevant work experience.
  • 10+ years of experience in consumer insights, business analytics, or stakeholder engagement, including at least 2 years in a leadership role managing, mentoring, or coaching individuals or teams.
  • 6+ years of experience leveraging analytics and evaluation data to develop and support strategic planning.


Required Qualifications 

  • Strongproficiencywith analytics and/or statistical tools (ex. SQL, Python/R, Tableau, Power BI, etc.).
  • Strong knowledge of qualitative and quantitative research methodologies.
  • Strong analytical background including strategic thinking and problem-solving skills, with the ability to translate complex data to actionable insights.
  • Proven track record of enabling data-driven decision making at a senior leadership level including addressing complex business challenges and shaping organizational strategy.
  • Strong experience with segmentation, predictive modeling, and behavioral analysis.
  • Solid background in journey mapping and personalization strategies.
  • Expertise in KPI development and performance measurement frameworks.
  • Experience leading enterprise-wide project management.
  • Ability to lead work cross-functionally in a remote team environment.


Preferred Qualifications 

  • Experience turning data and analytics into compelling data dashboards and story telling.
  • Experience working in mission-driven, nonprofit, or values-aligned organizations.
  • Experience working with fundraising and donor management software, Raiser’s Edge is preferred.
  • Strategic out of the box thinker with the ability to connect insights across functions.
  • Skilled at building trust cross-functionally and influencing all levels of the organization.


Travel Requirements: Travel may be necessary up to 20% by air, car, and/or rail domestically.
