At IHC, a Federally Qualified Health Center, we specialize in integrated care which means having access to essential services to meet the needs of patients we serve in the community. With ten healthcare centers, eight Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) nutrition program locations, a Mobile Health Unit, and in-house Pharmacy services (select locations), we offer primary medical, dental, and behavioral healthcare services to community-based patient populations throughout Indiana that are diverse in age, educational background, and income level.


IHC Kokomo is now recruiting for an Early Childhood Development Nurse (RN/LPN) to join our team. The Early Childhood Development (ECD) Nurse contributes to IHC’s mission by working across IHC sites to improve pediatric care coordination through the standardization of screenings, implementing the use of motivational interviewing, ensuring implementing SDOH screenings. They also educate staff to ensure that children and families are connected with local partners, including local WIC, Head Start, and Help Me Grow programs. The ECD Nurse works with the pediatric providers and other team members to achieve goals set by the ECD grant award. Preferred qualifications for the position include experience in pediatrics, vaccines, quality control, and education.

Clinic Hours of Operation

Monday - 7:30 a.m. - 7:00 p.m.

Tuesday - 7:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.

Wednesday - 7:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.

Thursday - 7:30 a.m. - 7:00 p.m.

Friday - 7:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.

Saturday (every other) - 8:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.

ECD Responsibilities Include:

  • Ensuring all Children ages 0-5 are properly screened and referred as needed
  • Educating parents on the importance of screenings, follow-up, vaccinations, literacy, dental health, etc...
  • Functioning as a support team member for providers and staff by reinforcing patient education
  • Maintaining positive professional relationships with parents, children, and staff
  • Participating in the preparation and maintenance of accurate patient medical records
  • Following HIPAA and OSHA standards
  • Performing other work assignments related to licensure requirements
  • ECD Nurse must use diverse but conventional methods, techniques, or approaches
  • Effectively communicating with diverse individuals
  • Maintaining accurate electronic medical records
  • Juggling multiple requests and meeting multiple deadlines
  • Taking the initiative and with minimal supervision

Required Skillset:


Public Health Nursing – Able to: 

  • Demonstrate considerable knowledge of current theory and practice of public health nursing. 
  • Demonstrate skill in the use of standard medical examination instruments and equipment.
  • Perform nursing-related procedures of varying degrees of difficulty.
  • Maintain accurate electronic medical records. 
  • Plan and administer nursing-related work of a complex nature.
  • Demonstrate high detail orientation and accuracy.
  • Juggle multiple requests and meet multiple deadlines.
  • Take initiative and needs minimal supervision.

Communication and Relationship Building - Able to: 

  • Demonstrate effective verbal and written communication and strong interpersonal skills.
  • Effectively communicate with diverse individuals
  • Persuade and/or influence others. 
  • Establish and maintain good working relationships with other team members.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited nursing school.
  • Registered Nurse OR Licensed Practical Nurse and licensed in the state of Indiana.
  • Experience in pediatrics, vaccines, quality control, and education preferred.
